OK, the NBA playoffs are off and running… who you got?
I have the Denver Nuggets. I know, boring pick. When was the last repeat NBA champ? Golden State in 2017 & 2018; it wasn’t that long ago. Although their bench may not be as strong, their starting five is intact, and they have the league MVP, so… yeah, give me Denver. Who would I like to win?
Well, let’s go down that path the only way I know how. Let’s start with who I DON’T want to win. The Los Angeles Lakers… I hate them, mostly because of LeFraud. Hoping the Nuggets take care of their asses without issue. I don’t want the Boston Celtics to win either; I don’t like them much. The fact that both of these franchises have so many titles… I wouldn’t mind if neither of them ever won anything ever again. The Celtics choke every single year seemingly; it’s not a matter of if… it’s a matter of when. Or, maybe this year will finally be their year? I can see them getting to the Finals. Who in the East will beat them?
I don’t want the Heat to win; I don’t think that will be a problem. I don’t want the Bucks to win; they already won their title. I do think the Cavs may give the Celts a run in the 2nd round, if they both advance. The Magic are too young; they have to pay some dues; same boat for the Pacers. Although I wouldn’t mind seeing the Cavs do it, it comes down to the winner of the Knicks and Sixers, which brings me to the team I’d like to see win… the New York Knicks. Blashphemy you say? Well, turn back the clock 30 years and I hated their guts, but… it’s about Thibs, and about the long suffering Knicks fan base. Hoping they can come out of the East and win the whole thing.
Out West, who if not Denver? OKC… I really like their squad; I wouldn’t mind them. I just think they’re too young too, just like the Timberwolves. I don’t want the Pelicans nor the Suns; super team Suns… OK. That leaves us with the 4-5 matchup of the Clippers and Mavericks; I guess I wouldn’t mind seeing one of them make some noise. My son is a big Luka fan… I guess I don’t mind him; not a big Kyrie guy, but the Mavericks? Maybe. The Clips… they’ve never won, but again, with all that superstar power, I’d prefer to see them flop.
OK, so New York vs Denver. My heart says the Knicks; my head says the Nuggets. With that Finals matchup, I wouldn’t be upset either way, although… the Nuggets already won their title, and you know how I hate to see another team win too much, so… Go Thibs!
