April 24, 2024: Praying for Wins

So one day before the new era for the Chicago Bears will begin, the Bears roll out a new stadium plan. Let’s recap. The Bears wanted a new stadium, but Chicago didn’t seem like they wanted to cooperate. They buy some land out in a Chicago suburb called Arlington Heights; they roll out a drawing of how the stadium and surrounding area would look. Signed, sealed, delivered, right? Well, not so fast. Now, Arlington Heights didn’t want to cooperate, so… we’re back to Chicago. On Wednesday, the Bears unveiled plans for their stadium on the lakefront. Who knows everything that went on behind the scenes here, but things have certainly swung back to the city for the Bears stadium. Signed, sealed, delivered?

I was just getting used to the fact that the Bears’ home would be in the burbs. It wasn’t ideal; I didn’t like it at first. Yet, the Bears need something. Nothing against Soldier Field, but it’s not big enough, point blank. It’s one of the smallest stadiums in the league. So… the Bears needed something, and if the city and mayor at the time Lightfoot, didn’t take it seriously, well then… bye. Enter in a new president for the Bears and a new mayor for Chicago, and voila… we’re back in the city. Like I said, who knows all the BS behind the scenes, and certainly don’t feel like paying for a new stadium for my billion dollar franchise team with my own little stack of money via increased taxes, but… this is where we’re at. Of course the stadium rendering looked nice; so did the other one. Do we have to stay in the exact location we’re at today? I saw some comments on it, and a lot of folks wondered… where are we going to park? Getting to Bears’ games has always been a little tough, and now, it could be tougher, although… we’ll get there. In fact, some people said the easiest way to a Bears game was by boat in Lake Michigan… haha. Where there’s a will, there’s a way. For us, this typically consisted of my wife dropping us off on 18th street, crossing the bridge, and getting to the game. It’ll be OK.

In fact, when you have God on your side, it’ll always be OK; this has especially important meaning for me right about now. But, coming out and praying on the Bears new stadium, praying for wins… yeah, the Bears rolled out a pastor at the press conference; that was kind of… different. Hey, when I was a kid, that’s what I prayed for… my team to win… haha. In fact, when I would play a game or whatever around the house, I’d say stuff like this… if I make this shot, the Bulls will win… if I win this game, the Bears will win… I’d act like I had a big part in the outcome of my teams’ games. Well, I don’t know about all of that, although I still do have my superstitions… Yet, the big G, He may have a little more pull, but certainly, there are a few other more important things to ask for His help with than wins for our teams. Don’t get me wrong; I want my teams to win and all, but… I’m saving my prayers for other things… until maybe the Bears get back to the Super Bowl, then I WILL throw in some prayers for them… haha.

So new stadium plans just before the new era begins. On Thursday, the start of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Bears couldn’t screw this up. With the #1 overall pick in hand and a clear cut #1 overall QB sitting there, this was as close to a slam dunk as there was. And with the first pick of the 2024 NFL draft, the Chicago Bears select…
