5:24 AM… that’s when this Saturday morning started. My son always gets up super early on the weekend; sometimes I’ll tell him to go back to bed. He may… for a minute, but then get back to trying to get me up. But today, I couldn’t do that. After all, it was his birthday.

My boy turned 9 years old; that is just flat out nuts. I remember the day he was born, and how nervous I was. I remember when we brought him home from the hospital; I had to get somebody to help me secure the car seat before we left. I remember the first time I had to leave him, my first day back at work. I remember when I was able to carry him comfortably on my forearm. I was always told that time will fly; I thought I understood that, but man, to take a step back and really realize that… damn. That’s OK though; getting older is a part of life. I’m not taking any of these days for granted, believe me. I’m doing the best that I can to be appreciative of what I have, including my newly minted nine year old son. I could go on…

So yeah, it’s been a pretty busy couple days; lot of stuff going on with our anniversary, his birthday, Easter, and of course, the return of baseball… haha. We’ll get back to the Cubs soon. But back to my son… You know, we didn’t really want him to ever be locked in on video games; the pandemic has made this a bit more challenging. Still, when he is in school, he only gets to play on Friday after he gets out through Sunday evening; nothing during the week. When he’s out of school, like he will be this week, he’ll get to play more. He plays Roblox, along with some games on the Nintendo Switch; another game he plays is Rocket Royale. Not sure if you’ve heard of it, but I guess it’s like Fortnite; I’ve never played that game. But I have played this Rocket Royale game with my son; it’s fun as hell. It may not be age appropriate for him, with all the killing… so I figured I’d play with him, to keep it light. He still hates losing, in anything; this is no different. But he’s really good at this game; I’ve had to practice without him to get better myself. Now, I’m to a point where we make a pretty good team out there. It’s a lot of fun, mainly because we’re doing something together; that’s the key, with any of this stuff really. I love doing stuff together with my son; I’m going to continue to do whatever I can with him, for as long as he wants to do stuff with his dad. I’m like his big brother too; I’m OK with that.

He’s a good kid. He’s very smart; straight As in school. He’s got a big heart; he’s in a good mood most of the time. He loves to laugh and act crazy, whether it’s singing or dancing or whatever. He is my mini me, and I love him more than I can explain. Happy Birthday boy.
