Meanwhile, on the betting front… I placed one bet in Vegas; can’t remember if I already mentioned this. It was on the Columbus Blue Jackets, and I hit it! A nice $50+ score to offset some of the slots’ donations. I had placed the bet at Wynn, since we weren’t going to make it back to Caesars in time; the only downside of winning this bet is that we had to head back over there to pickup my winnings. This has been my only win lately…
Yes, I’ve been on some hot streaks and I’ve had my share of losing streaks, but the streak I’m on right now… not good. I’ve lost 15 bets in a row, or approximately, almost a third of my bankroll. I just think… imagine if I had been going oppo this whole time. To be that streaky… I’m on to something; I just need to know when to flip it. Therein lies the rub. If I win 7 in a row, when do I know to start going opposite of my pick? I’ve always been told to ride the hot hand… OK, so I keep riding it, and start a few game losing streak… THEN I should flip it? If I knew the perfect formula, I certainly wouldn’t still be sitting here at my day job. We keep grinding…
Handling a losing streak is one of the biggest challenges of this here thing. The discipline it takes to NOT start chasing, or increasing my bets to “get even”, is not for the faint of heart. In fact, back in the day, that’s exactly what I would have done. Soon after, I’d be broke. Maybe I should decrease my plays during a losing streak. Maybe I decrease the amount I put on each game in a bad run. Maybe both. Still have to figure this out. I’d like to say the next time I see a streak coming like this, I can avoid it. At this point, I’ll just take a winner… one, single winner. It’s amazing that in a streak like this, it’s so difficult to pick ONE winner. Other times, I can go on 5-1 runs, 6-2… picking winners without issue. Why does this flip so badly?
You have to be able to adjust, constantly audible your “systems”; you can’t continue to ride the same trends, the same thinking about the games. You have to be able to mix it up, and try to avoid these pitfalls. Yet, these streaks are inevitable. If you stick to your game, ride it out, come out the other end, and have more good ones than bad ones… that’s how you survive. That’s how you’ll make it.
OK, back to searching for that winner… I know I’ll find one eventually… haha.
