April 5, 2024: My 4th Job

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 0

I’ve been doing this for almost 10 years… writing this blog on this website; that’s crazy to me. I remember why I started it… I was pissed at my job; it was my 20th anniversary and nobody cared. I wanted to try something different. I was doing Uber at the time too, and then this… matching up my passion for writing with my passion for my sports teams. I’ve never made a cent off this, which is why, I know consider it my 4th job.

There’s my day job; that’s what really brings home the bacon. This is job numero uno. But I have another paying job now… yes, I teach chess at my son’s school once a week; I love it. Playing chess is another passion of mine, as is, working with kids. The nice thing about this gig is that I actually get paid for it, and a decent buck too. That’s why my chess teaching is considered my 2nd job. That brings us to my 3rd job. In case you haven’t noticed, I’ve been back on the sports gambling bus, but this time, seriously. Seriously meaning, not just F-ing around, being careless and stupid; I’d actually like to make something out of it in the long run. So far, in the past 12-13 months, I haven’t lost one dime to it. Yes, I’m actually up money, continuing to try to build my bankroll. So, because I’ve made some money on it, I consider it my 3rd job.

Then I continue to write… for no pay, but that’s OK. Besides being a combination of two passions of mine, it serves another purpose too. You can see it right on the front of my website:

I’m a die-hard Chicago sports fan.  Born and raised in the Heart of Chicago, the same neighborhood that Papa Bear George Halas grew up in, there is only one choice when it comes to who I’m rooting for day in day out.  I want to share my opinions on MY teams and show you the view through the eyes of a die-hard.  Come with me on the rollercoaster ride that only a true fan can appreciate.

It’s that roller coaster ride that is at the crux of it; this is my therapy. Everybody needs an outlet… a healthy outlet. I can think of my other “outlets” of mine that may not be so healthy; I can think of other “outlets” I haven’t utilized that would be even worse. Yeah, so I write… about my teams… that’s what I do, along with my other therapy session… smoking that cigar a few times a month.

This therapy session typically doesn’t get too deep; sometimes I’ll veer off course for a day or two here and there. Honestly though, I keep it pretty light. I mean, I’m talking about therapy related to my Chicago sports teams; there’s a lot more serious reasons to need therapy then that. I’ve been lucky to have avoided those, for the most part, during the first half of my life, that is, until now…
