Tuesday was the first day all year where the Bulls, Blackhawks, and Cubs were playing at the same time; the Sox played later in the evening as well, but I don’t really care about them. The Bulls started early in Indiana; the Cubs had their earlier weeknight start time; the Blackhawks started at their normal time in the UC. A night like this required some serious remote skills; I was trying my best not to miss anything.
The best way to handle these evenings is to have multiple TVs; does anyone still have and/or use PIP (picture in picture)? Even that wouldn’t be enough though. In this case, you need 3 TVs to keep eyes on all 3 games simultaneously; something for me to shoot for in my adult life. Until then, I’m just going to have to feel it out, and use my best instinct to keep up.
It started off easy enough. With the Bulls starting at 6pm, it was only them for a while. Since we got home at about 6:15pm, I missed half of that window. Still, tuned into the Bulls and I liked what I saw. I sort of dissected their schedule in a recent blog; this game against the Pacers was definitely in the “must-win” category. When I heard they were missing Sabonis and Brogdon (?)… it was really a must win. If the Bulls blew this lead they had built up, it would be embarrassing. The Bulls have blown enough games they should have won this year… more than enough. And now, we’re getting to the part of the season where these type of games will be even more magnified. Thankfully, the Bulls kept doing what they were doing and beat Indiana; one win down, check.

I tuned into see AA have some first inning troubles. As I flipped back to the Bulls game, I thankfully missed the big Brewers hit; the Cubs started off down 3-0 before they took the field. He settled down after that; only giving up one more run before exiting for the evening. Unfortunately, we were facing a potential Cy Young candidate in Freddy (I thought it was Wily) Peralta. One fricking hit?!?! Come on Cubbies. Why did I keep tuning into this game? I wasn’t missing anything, until Willson got hit again in the 9th. That’s a bunch of BS if you ask me. Who knows if they’re throwing at us or not, but enough is enough. Obviously they’re trying to pitch us inside, without worrying about hitting us… if you miss the location, make sure you miss inside type of stuff. We going to plunk them back? That’s two for two for Contreras, and one for Baez in the first game; that first one for Willson was pretty scary. With Hendricks pitching in the rubber game, if he hit somebody with his control, it would be a little message back to the Brewers, but then it would ruin his perfect game… and I want to see a perfect game in person. The Hawks came on at 7pm. That first goal by Kane was sweeet except it was wiped off by a reviewed offsides call. It was pretty clear Dach was offsides, so although the pretty goal was taken away, it was the right call. I missed the Hawks first and second goal; watching the Cubs, then reading with my son. I was able to tune in for the final minute though, to see a goal that DID count for Kane, and empty netter, to seal the deal and grab a 3-1 victory for the Blackhawks. Although I haven’t done a deep schedule dive on the remaining games for the Hawks, it’s pretty clear they need to win every game they should… this home tilt against the Stars would be in that category. Sacrificing an early season Cubs loss for a Bulls and Hawks win as they both battle for playoff spots seemed like a fair proposition on this evening.
But as I mentioned a couple times already, I will be in the house at Wrigley for today’s afternoon affair vs the Brewers. I have really good seats… maybe some of the best I’ve ever had in the cathedral. I can’t wait to get back in Wrigley. Thankfully, I only have to wait another 5-6 hours.
