Besides one or two chances, the Hawks energy was clearly evident on the defensive end; that was great to see. Only 5 shots on the offensive side is not going to get it done though.
This energy, effort kept the Hawks in this game. As the Knights began to exert their will on us in the 2nd period, the Hawks hung tough. Crow should have made that first save; the 2nd goal was tough though. Yet, a super effort by Saad on the penalty kill lead to a short handed goal that would cut the lead in half before the end of the period. As usual, I didn’t make it through the entire game; I didn’t see one minute of the 3rd period. But if I had to take a gander, like me, the Hawks just ran out of energy; maybe I’m wrong. But I imagine the Knights continued to press on the gas and the Hawks just couldn’t keep up. 4-1 loss in Game 1.

Yet, remember what happened after the mid 2000s. As we got to the tail end of that decade, when I watched the Hawks, you could tell how much better they were; THEY were the better team on the ice most nights. And yes, at the end of the 2009 season, we ran into that brick wall, but we skated it through it the following year, winning it all, being the best team in hockey from start to finish. Let’s play our asses off, let’s give them all we got, let’s soak up this experience playing against the #1 seed in the West. Win or lose, the Hawks will be better because of it; hopefully we have some wins in us. Go Hawks!
