August 16, 2021: The Corn Game

posted in: Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 2

I had been meaning to talk about last Thursday night; what a night that was. I settled in on my couch to watch greatness; it was so cool to see. I got emotional watching it. What an ending too huh? I can’t think of anything better than it. Of course, I’m talking about The Last Dance; I’m in the middle of watching it for the 3rd time. What? Did you think I was talking about the Corn Game?

I didn’t watch that shit, sorry. I know, I know… I heard it was pretty great. The Sox actually beat a winning team; well, then they went ahead and lost the series, at home, but hey… never forget the Corn Game; I heard a clip of LaRussa talking on the radio the other day, using that term. Now that’s some funny shit. Sounds like MLB is going to make a thing out of this; supposedly the Cubs will be in the game next year playing the Reds. What a joke! Unless of course the Cubs were going to play their Triple A Iowa team in the game. Oh, like the one we’re fielding nowadays???

I’m still bitter. The no hitter was cool; it cheered me up for a minute. And yes, the Bears are on the horizon; man do I need them this year, more than ever, to pull me out of this gutter I’m laying in. It’s hard for me to get any joy out of baseball right now… other than watching my son play. He had tryouts last week for a travel team; he kicked ass. He can catch it, throw it, and run like hell. He took his couple swings, making contact each time, including one laser to center. They had the kids catch behind the plate; check. They also had them pitch from the mound; big time check. After the couple strikes he fired in there, one of the coaches walked up to him and asked him his name; yep, I was a proud papa right there. There’s nothing quite like watching your kid play sports; it’s a really awesome feeling. COVID really jacked us around there, but… whatever… moving on…

Yeah, it’s hard to watch the Cubs right now; I try… I’ll watch an inning or two, or if I’m in the car, listen for a few… The thing is, if it’s not hard enough already with the roster we’re fielding, we’re getting blown out most of the time. 12 game losing streak in process right now. I know there have been some dark days as Cubs fans; believe me, I remember them… and yeah, yeah… it makes the winning that much sweeter… it is true, but whatever with that right now. This is like bottom of the barrel type stuff right now… and it’s worse because it’s self inflicted. I can’t imagine a way Cubs management/ownership could have botched this worse than they did… Like I said after the day of the massacre, it was going to take time… a lot of time… at least until the offseason when the Cubs spend their money on some big time free agent acquisitions… haha… I actually believed myself for a quick minute there… but seriously, what are the odds of that happening this offseason???

So now I have to watch another team playing in my city have their great moments… am I supposed to feel happy about that? I don’t. I see others that do; I can’t… sorry. Like I always said, I try not to root against them, but I’m definitely not rooting for them… or getting any enjoyment out of this season thus far. But hey, it’s good for Chicago right? And plus I know a lot of Sox fans… good for them too. But for me… just leave me alone… I’m going to lay back down in my rut…

LMAO. Come on buddy. Never too late to jump on the WHITE SOX bandwagon. Not sold on them being a World Series team. But, getting there is half the fun. With a healthy team and a three time champion as manager. Anything can happen. Out of the gutter and enjoy the excitement of this SOX team my friend. As a cub fan you know the next line by heart. There’s always next year.

Not so much into the whole bandwagon thing… that’s not for me. Do or die Cubs, and right now I’m dying… kind of like how that three time champion manager looks… rolling him out of the casket every day to manage a game… as long as he gets his daily vodka, he’s OK… haha.
