August 19, 2020: Slump Buster

The Cardinals came into town on Monday looking to extend the Cubs 3 game losing streak. The Cards and Cubs would play 5 games in 3 days. I was watching something and they were saying how unfair it is to the Cardinals to have to make up so many games in so little time. I call BS. First off, the stories of their guys hanging out at casinos and subsequently getting COVID… just flat out stupid. The outbreak on the Cards caused many series to be cancelled, including their first against the Cubs. If this outbreak was due to their carelessness, how am I supposed to feel sorry for them? Secondly, this year is already kind of crazy; I mean, it IS crazy, but the whole 60 game season, the games only against the division teams in each league, the new rules… you have to go with the flow. I like the stuff Ross says about it; you just have to be happy you’re playing baseball. Growing up, who wouldn’t want to be out there playing baseball all day every day? Take it back to your childhood; embrace it. Don’t whine about it. Finally, they’re the Cardinals, so F them anyways.

Hendricks went to the mound in game 1 on Monday, and he was great as usual. His only blemish through the first six innings was a home run from Fowler; if anybody is going to hit one for them, I’d rather it be him. Hendricks got in some trouble in the 7th, the final inning in these make up double headers. The Cards capitalized, smacking a 2 run double; Brad Miller of all guys. Remember that name. The Cardinals would extend the Cubs losing streak to 4, beating them in the opener.

In the second game, it sure looked like that streak would stretch to five. Brad Miller again… 2 home runs! What the heck? The Cards held a two run lead late until slump buster David Bote stepped up with two guys on; bam! I like David Bote; he’s had some big moments. We can now add another to the list. He’s hitting over 300 as a pinch hitter, plus his defense… he’s a good guy to have around. I was relieved to win that one.

Tuesday night brought the third game of the series; this one wouldn’t be as close. Although the Cardinals did make some noise late, making it closer than I would have liked, the Cubs closed it out, starting a streak of the right variety with 2 consecutive wins.

If it’s so unfair to the Cardinals, isn’t unfair to the other teams that were impacted by their stupidity? But I’m not going to whine… nah, I’m good. I wish the Cubs played double headers every day, and with the attitude of their manager and subsequently the team, I think they’d be fine with it. For the love of the game for God’s sake… The Cards… got no love for them. Let’s send them out of Chicago back to wherever with a couple more losses. Go Cubs!
