August 21, 2021: No Need

posted in: Bears | 0

All right… Saturday was the 2nd preseason game for our Bears. I wasn’t going to be able to watch, so yes, I recorded this meaningless game for the 2nd week in a row, of course to watch Justin Fields again. Then… I saw the final score. No thank you. No need to watch this game. Delete the recording.

Preseason games are meaningless after all. This is what I’ve been saying for the past, oh, 20 years or so. Sure, this year is different, with the potential arrival of the 2nd franchise QB in Bears history. Sure, the guy who was drafted 2nd overall by the Bears back in 2017, who could have been the 2nd franchise QB in Bears history, was at the helm of this ass kicking the Bears took, except this guy was playing for the Bills. See, I told you these games don’t mean shit.

Bravo Mitch. You came back and really showed us… yawn. Hey, the guy had a good game. I’m sure it was pretty satisfying for him, to come back here and show the team who drafted him what a big mistake they made. Yeah, and then reality smacks, and we realize that THIS guy, Trubisky, will be a backup QB this season. So… enjoy it while you can buddy. And all the Mitch supporters can get excited, and all the Mitch detractors can get pissed. Whatever.

I was a Mitch supporter, for as long as he wore a Bears uniform, just like I am with anybody that wears a Bears uniform. He’s not wearing the orange and blue any longer, so I could give two shits about what he does. One great preseason performance is not going to make me feel bad about it. We saw more than enough when he WAS playing for us to know that he ain’t that guy. No hard feelings. Good luck to you Mitch, just so long as his interests don’t mix with our interests… most likely, we won’t see him again.

We will see Justin Fields again, thankfully, after that dirty ass hit he took; I did see that highlight. Up 30 in a preseason game and you’re going helmet to helmet with a dude? But hey, like I said, he’s OK, and taking a big hit in the mouth early on is a good thing for our guy, right? I think so. Welcome to the NFL rookie.

The worst thing that came out of this game was some comments that I read after the game from Nagy still sticking with that asinine idea of starting Dalton at QB to start the season. WTF. Even my son knows… when he said Trubisky would have been a better backup than our options, Dalton and Foles, he wasn’t lying. I said it’d be a toss up. But we’re not in the business of comparing backup QBs… we’re in the business of finding a starting QB, and that my friends, is Justin Fields. Yet, it certainly looks like we’re going to have to wait, at least a little bit, before we see the official start of the Justin Fields era. But hey, we’ve waited, what, 80 years since the Sid Luckman era, the only true franchise QB in Bears history. I guess we can wait another few weeks?

But see, I say, why waste a game, or games? Why put the 2nd best QB on our roster as starter? Fields is the better player right? Winning NFL games is not easy; wasting opportunities for that is flat out stupid. Is that how we’re going to start this season?

OK, more to come, obviously. As much excitement that I felt when we drafted him, as much excitement as I felt after the first preseason game, this shitbox of a second preseason game is not going to damper that. Here’s hoping Nagy is just blowing smoke up our asses, and Fields really will be the starter week 1; here’s coming to the realization that we may still have to be patient to finally see a legitimate QB taking snaps when the games do count. Bear Down.
