August 25, 2020: B&B Boys

I like Killer Bees too… but went with the B&B Boys who were responsible for leading the Cubs past the mighty Tigers on Monday night in Detroit. Yes, Alec Mills name needs to be worked in there somehow too; he’s been really good for us. But with the bats of Baez and Bote, the Cubs won their 2nd in a row, staying 3 games ahead of St. Louis for first place in the NL Central.

I’ve been waiting for this kind of game for Baez. He’s been in a big time slump, just pissing me off. Hoping because I’ve been talking more about it lately, it somehow helps him snap out of it. I know, I know… crazy talk, but I have to try to do my part. Saying how he’s got his head in his ass, complaining about him swinging at air, dogging him for his dumb base running moves, maybe it’s all working. Baez go boom 2 times last night, both were no cheapies.

Then there’s Bote… sure, he’s much better coming off the bench than starting, but man, he’s got some big hits for us. Monday night continued that theme. Talk about a long home run… damn! Plus it was his single that got us on the board, and his single that provided insurance. He had himself a great game.

Of course, when I mention B&B Boys, I would like to be talking about Kris Bryant. He is scheduled to come back this weekend I believe, but there’s another one; head up his butt type slump. I love KB… but it seems as if he has a lot of little, nagging type injuries that get blamed for his frequent slumps. Does everything have to be in perfect working condition for him to succeed? Hey, maybe it does, and that’s OK; I do know that hitting a major league pitcher has to be one of the hardest things in sports. Not everybody can do that effectively. But KB… come on, that’s supposed to be THE MAN; he’s supposed to be one of the best Cubs of all time… no pressure Kris. When you return, I hope you’re ready to start showing that… plus you’re killing my fantasy team… but yeah, we need you to start swinging a hot bat and carry us through September.

I’m just glad to not be playing a hot team. Although the Tigers did just win a series vs the Indians, you can tell the difference in quality playing them. They have nobody. Miggy isn’t even hitting his weight; bunch of no names. Guys making bad plays in the outfield. This team is bad OK. There is absolutely no reason why the Cubs can’t sweep this series. I thought maybe the rook would give us some issues in this series opener, but I was wrong. Maybe Fullmer pitches well against us on Wednesday… I don’t know… Definite series win here boys; go for the sweep… now I just jinxed it. Go Cubs!
