It was the perfect setup; one that we haven’t had in a LONG time. Cubs playing at 7; Blackhawks to follow at 930. Cubs held up their part of the bargain; Blackhawks not so much. The qualifying round series with the Oilers is now even at one after a 6-3 loss.

Silly me; did I really think I was going to stay up for the entire Hawks game? Before the Cubs game even ended, before the previous hockey game finished, before I knew where to find the Blackhawks on the TV, the Oilers had jumped out to a 1-0 lead; the lead was 2-0 before I finally landed on the game. That was quick. I did get to see 88s first playoff goal of the year as he cut the deficit to 2-1 heading into the first intermission. I did see a replay of that McDavid goal; my God… that was damn impressive. Sure, his hat trick goal was a cheapie, but that one… wow; skill to the max.

I don’t even recall making it back from the first intermission to be honest with you. I’ve been falling asleep, hard, and quick. I did open my eyes a few times; one of those times was to see the 3rd goal from Connor. I have absolutely no recollection of the 3rd period, but by the looks of it, I didn’t miss anything. I did miss the Blackhawks battling back to tie the game at 3 during that 2nd period, before the wheels fell off. How did they look in this one? I couldn’t tell you.

I could tell you that this was predictable. Yeah, I was drinking that Kool Aid after Game 1; who wouldn’t be? I mean, no hockey in almost 5 months, the Blackhawks hit the ice, and play like THAT?!?! My heart was full; I had visions of glory in my head. Yeah, well, knowing this year’s Hawks would have told you that a loss was coming; for every good, there is a bad… 2 bads in fact, which makes me think Game 3 is not looking good for us. That would leave Game 4 for the Hawks to even it up again, and lead to a winner take all Game 5; I’d be OK with that.

This is bonus time right? We weren’t making the playoffs; these games are cake man. And you know what? Even if the Hawks lose, we get a 12.5% chance at the #1 pick in the draft; not a bad consolation prize. What would happen if the Hawks win? Where would they be seeded? Who would they play? Those questions started going through my head, but for now, I’m not worrying about those. Looking forward to Wednesday night’s game; hoping I can stay awake for this one. Hoping it will be worth it. Go Hawks!
