August 8, 2021: As Expected

Getting swept is never fun, especially when it’s at the hands of a team whose fans you interact with on a regular basis. However, in this case, it was as expected… The Sox are playoff bound; the Cubs are tank bound. Two ships passing in the night as they say… lucky for us, we get to play the Sox one more series…

I tried to do everything this weekend to NOT watch the games. I was fortunate enough to be watching when Kimbrel gave up that home run to what’s his name… that was the lone bright spot of the entire weekend, and possibly a preview of things to come from Kimbrel in the playoffs? Cubs still lost. Saturday I had it on the radio as I was in and out of the pool I put up in our backyard in the morning. Sunday night I was in the car, but by the time I was ready to check in on the game, it was already over for all intensive purposes. I wasn’t going to listen at that point; it was a rough enough week as it was. I wasn’t going to end it on that note. Nope, music it was…

Now that the Olympics are over, I have no distraction from watching the Cubs game; I do plan on starting multiple at home projects over the next couple weeks until Bears season starts up. I need to keep busy with something, anything that can guide me away from sitting on the couch in front of the TV watching the Cubs; this is always my first instinct. It’s painful right now though… the season is over, and that is not an understatement. Once the big 3 were dumped, our fate was sealed. We got a preview of this thinking before the season…

The one major league piece we got in return for that white flag deal was on the mound on Sunday night, doing his thing. Davies sucks plain and simple. On the other side of things, Cease and Jimenez were doing their thing. Like I said, if the Sox do win it all, they owe the Cubs a big THANK YOU… because without US there would be no you. You’re welcome.

I get a kick out of reading stuff like “it’s a White Sox town now”… whoever says that shit is an idiot. It will NEVER be a Sox town; never…ever. It’s a Bears town before anything #1, but if it had to be one baseball team’s town, it’s the Cubs… always has been, always will be… sorry to break it to you. You can live in your “white sox town”, but the other millions of folks are not living in that same town. That’s OK… enjoy it. This fact shouldn’t upset you. But it doesn’t matter if the Sox win multiple titles, when it comes to baseball in Chicago, it’s always Cubs first. Be proud of that red-headed step child title… be proud.

Enjoy your wins; yuck it up. The Sox are used to beating up on inferior competition; look at their division. But hey, it’s not their fault; you have to beat the teams on your schedule, and they are certainly doing that… that is, if it’s not a winning team. But, making the playoffs is the goal here, and the Sox are on target; all that other stuff can be sorted out in the 2nd season… just getting there is priority #1. I think it’s safe to say mission accomplished.

And mission accomplished for the Cubs front office in ending our Golden Era. This was your plan all along… kind of like Jerry Krause always itching to rebuild it… when you really never had to. Chicago has been blessed with great sports teams, but we’ve always felt the brunt of the other side of that sword. I will cherish the great memories, always looking forward to more. While the Cubs are dead, the Bears, Bulls, and Blackhawks appear to be locked and loaded for their seasons; I couldn’t be more excited. Now to just get through the rest of the Cubs season…
