August 8, 2023: Betting on the Cubs

posted in: Cubs | 4

I think I’ve talked about betting with your head vs betting with your heart in the past… basically don’t do it! So why then will I be writing about betting on the Cubs today? Well… do as I say not as I do… at least that’s what I tell my son too…

So yeah, I have bet on the Cubs a few times recently; I’ve profited on some of their recent Ws, while giving some back with the Ls. I’ve bet against them on occasion too, which is really unhealthy, unless I won’t be watching the game at all. I’ve been working through all of this in the recent round of baseball betting; I think I’m having a breakthrough… it’s been a process.

You see, I want the Cubs to win every game; there are times, when they do not win, when I get pissed off. We’re not even talking about having money on the game yet. In recent times, I’ve had to come off that ledge; with the Cubs losing so much over the past couple years, I’d drive myself nuts. With the Cubs returning to some winning ways, it’s been better. But now, to put money on the Cubs to win a game??? It’s like I’m putting myself right back out there on the ledge. To want the Cubs to win badly AND have money on the game… it’s really like an all or nothing proposition. When they win, I’m extra excited. But when they lose… ugh! As if I don’t get pissed off enough at players when the Cubs are losing when I don’t have money on the game… yeah, it can be rough.

What about when I decide NOT to bet on the Cubs… and they win? Well, when they lose, then yeah, see, I was right. But when they win and I didn’t bet on them… I missed an opportunity. It’s almost like I need to be right more than I want the Cubs to win, and that ain’t right. A Cubs loss when I didn’t bet on them OR bet against them is appreciated almost. A Cubs win when I didn’t bet on them… it’s almost if I want them to lose like I think they were going to. No, no, I can’t be like THAT. Like I said, this has been a process.

So, I think I’m working my way through it. I don’t want to NOT bet on the Cubs to avoid all this stuff; I could be missing a golden opportunity, like this recent hot streak. Plus, who knows the Cubs better than I do? I know them better than any other MLB team at the very least. So… I should be able to use that to my advantage no? Nothing wrong with that right? Right, but… at the end of the day, I want the Cubs to win every game, whether I bet on them or not, whether I bet for them to win or to lose. It’s the separation of the head and the heart that is so difficult, but… I think I’m getting better. Yeah, we’ll see about that Week 1 of the NFL season… haha. Until then, let’s stack some more Ws Cubbies. Of course, I bet on them to win the 1st game against the Mets and passed on the 2nd… haha. Will I be on them in the rubber match? TBD. Either way though, Go Cubs!!!

An intriguing discussion is worth comment. I do think that you should publish more on this topic, it might not be a taboo subject but generally people dont speak about such subjects. To the next! Cheers!!
