December 10, 2019: Frustration

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

I hate this shit. It’s all related to expectations. Looking forward to staying up tonight to watch the Blackhawks play. Hoping to see a good game. Then I have to sit through 20 minutes of absolute garbage from the Blackhawks in the 2nd period which saw the Golden Knights turn a scoreless tie into a three goal lead. Pure frustration.

The game started innocently enough. Sure, it looked like Vegas was the slightly better team in the first, but the Hawks were right there. Some really good chances on both sides coupled with some outstanding goaltending, I was fine. Yet, I did have the feeling that we were going to need Crow to carry us in this one. Why do we always have to rely on phenomenal goaltending to win a game? One man can only do so much.

The second period began and Crow held up…for a while. I’d be pissed off to see teammates absolutely sleepwalking out there. Good God…I’m no hockey expert, but they looked like dog shit. There was no push, outside of maybe a two minute span late in the period. It was two different level hockey teams on the ice. Vegas’ first goal was sweet, at the end of their power play. Unlike Zach Smith in the first period, this Smith was able to complete the move around the goaltender. It would only get worse, as the Hawks continued to skate without purpose. Some dude got his first goal of the year, which was whatever. Then came the straw that broke the camel’s back.

I thought it was an advantage to be on the power play, but I don’t think the Blackhawks believe in that. After a zero shot power play to end the first, they would get another chance to end the second, coming off the only two minutes they really played hard. But as Eddie O predicted, the Knights (I think it should just be Knights, it’s cleaner) scored a beautiful short handed goal. Great play by DeBrincat leading to the 2 on 1 the other way. For some reason he really stood out in that period, in a really bad way. I don’t know the grading system for players or advanced metrics, but Alex would rank pretty low. Just when he finally starts scoring some goals, he turns in that beaut. Game, set, match. The only question that remains is if I will stay up for the rest of this game.

So I went to take a quick dump, still listening while the Hawks took theirs, 4-0. I’m done. Go Hawks…
