December 11, 2020: Week 14 Preview Texans at Bears

posted in: Bears | 0

So Deshaun Watson will finally get to play in Soldier Field. It’s unavoidable… that story line. Yes not only did we pass on Mahomes, but also Watson. Plenty of articles about that this week. Frankly, I’m sick of hearing about it; I mean, everybody makes a bad choice… if other NFL teams knew what Mahomes would be… Bottom line, the Bears are not unique in this. However, the fact that after reading what I’ve read, it is pretty apparent that Pace didn’t do his due diligence when making this pick; that is inexcusable, and frankly, should cost him his job. OK, enough of that…

Yeah right. We’re going to see it in our face on Sunday; we’re going to be hearing about it all game. With the way our defense has been playing the last couple games, I wouldn’t be surprised that Watson shows out. He doesn’t admit it, but this one has to mean a bit more. It could get ugly… and THEN, there’ll be enough of that, right?

No… it doesn’t end. The Bears are going to have to go back through the picking the QB of the future process. Trubisky is done here. I see stuff out there that he’ll go elsewhere and do well; maybe… probably not. I think we’ve seen enough. I wanted to believe he’d get better. Some blame Nagy for it. The offensive line hasn’t helped. Sure, it wasn’t the ideal situation, but it shouldn’t have to be right? If the QB is the guy, he’ll make the team better. He doesn’t need everything to be perfect for him. Mitch isn’t that guy. Maybe he’ll be serviceable elsewhere… a career backup who may get a good chance one year. Who knows? We can say the same for the future of the QB position in Chicago; this isn’t a new question unfortunately.

What else is there to talk about? Sure, I’d like to see the Bears win again; it sucks seeing them lose week after week. I would never root for that, to improve draft position, or whatever. I watch the games, every game… I want to see them win. If the defense were playing like they can, I’d like the Bears to win this game, but they’re not. Houston will score points, which brings us back to the question of the year: how many points can this Bears offense muster?

I wish I had better news for you. I wish I still had the faith. I did dig deep and pick them against the Packers, already having mentally tapped out. But I picked Detroit last week; I got Houston this week. My son is still picking the Bears in our work pool; gotta love the faith. Yeah, I still have it… it never goes away, but as far as this year goes, I’m done. Hope to see another win before the season is over; realize that may not happen. Playing out the string…
