December 16, 2019: Tank Rolls On

On this 4th day of Christmas, let’s take a peek at how the Bulls finished the 2018-2019 season; do we have to? Well, yes, this is “year in review” time, so we have to. OK…

The tank rolls on is the best way I could put it. It sucks to be in this position as a fan. I’m sure everyone associated with the team feels that way too… well, as long as the attendance numbers look good… OK, I really don’t want to go down that path right now. This season wasn’t a total waste though right? Although the coaching change happened at the end of 2018, and almost didn’t make it to 2019, the Boylen Era began! Let’s take a step back. I was glad Hoiberg was gone, period. I was never a fan of his. I surely didn’t think things could get worse…

I was supportive of Hoiberg being shown the door; I was ready and willing to give Boylen his shot at it. I didn’t put too much stock in the way 2018-2019 ended; instead, I looked forward to the first full year with Boylen at the helm. It was kind of perfect, in that his contract coincided with the end of the 2019-2020 season. We would see how he did, and then management could make the decision to keep him or not. Well, in true GarPax form, they extended Boylen before we even played one quarter in 2019-2020. That was stupid. For every argument that could be made to doing this, the bottom line is that he hasn’t proven anything yet. Is one year too little a time frame for somebody to prove themselves? The way coaches are circled in and out, be glad to get that full year. And in this full year, although winning an NBA title would not be the deciding factor, the progress of a young team can certainly be gauged. How’s that going so far?

Yes, the Bulls ended their 4th straight shitty year. Yes, they did have a postseason appearance three years ago as the 8 seed, and some may tell you that if Rondo didn’t get hurt we could have beat the Celtics, but I’m not counting that as a good year. It’s been since 2014-2015 that we’ve put a great team on the court. It seems like another lifetime ago… I thought by now I would see some light at the end of the tunnel, but I’m not seeing it. We’re working our way through 2019-2020 at this point, and still don’t see it. We’re finally making our dissatisfaction known with some low attended home games lately, hoping maybe to prompt some action by ownership, but then we have to realize that daddy is too busy with the Sox, and son isn’t going to do a damn thing to the lifers that are GarPax. I’m really depressing myself now…

Well, we just have to hope for a miracle with coach of the year candidate Boylen and the young, talented, raw roster of the Bulls. I mean, with the East that way it is, the playoffs are a possibility at well below 500; that would be an accomplishment, right? On the 4th day of Christmas, Santa brought to us, a 4th straight crappy Bulls season.
