February 2, 2024: One Week Until

posted in: Bulls | 0

Hey, I thought we were done talking Super Bowl for now… Yes, we are. Besides the Super Bowl next Sunday, it’s one week until the NBA trade deadline. I’m sure the Bulls will be busy…. that’s a joke.

The Bulls SHOULD be busy. I keep seeing somebody on Twitter posting Zach Lavine in a different uniform like every day, with a trade proposal. Are they just making this shit up? Seriously, I wouldn’t care where he goes, and what we get back for him… just as long as they take his contract too, although maybe that’s the issue? Why doesn’t anybody want him? There has to be somebody who does, right? Well, I thought so. With the trade deadline fast approaching, surely we’ll find out. Of course, Zach is conveniently out again with his injury-du-jour… for one more week. Don’t want to damage his trade value any more than his play already has. I really wanted Zach to be good. I just feel like this ship has sailed already. AKME… calling AKME… make it happen!

And what about any other activity? If the Bulls can’t unload Zach on some sucker, surely people will be interested in our other assets. Alex Caruso… love the guy, but man… does he want to keep staying with us in basketball purgatory? He deserves better. I wish he could be part of a Bulls team that will rumble into the playoffs and make some noise, but that feels like a pipe dream at this point. Maybe next year? Or… maybe we maximize on AC’s value and get some good young players back for him. Surely don’t want to move him, but… if it’s going to brighten the Bulls future, then… we need some ray of light.

And how about a great veteran leader like DeMar DeRozan? Again, love the guy, but his best days are behind him; we will not sign him to a new contract. So, might as well get something for him. What? That will kill our chances for this year? You’re kidding right? Our chances are already shot. Love Coby White and all, and yes, Ayo has been playing better, but when I want Andre Drummond on the floor more than one of the “big 3” in Vooch, and DD is past his prime, and Zach is somewhere on his way to another team, well… it’s time to reload.

Yet, why are there reports out there that the Bulls will stand pat? I thought AKME would be different. They tried; it failed. So what, you don’t try to go down a new path? Standing pat, just like this past offseason, is the worst thing they can do to us. I want the Bulls to win as much as anybody, and yes, I cherish the regular season Ws knowing the postseason is probably a short stop, if on our route at all, but come on… where are we in progressing to our 7th title? You know, the one where we could have ran back the team and coach to get back in 1998-1999? Maybe we should ask Krause’s widow for her advice. Ok, low blow…

It’s frustrating, sorry. This Bulls team is on a merry go round that does not have an ending; there is no pot of gold at the end of this rainbow. We need to do something, anything. I’m going to hold out hope that AKME will wake up and make something happen to get this arrow pointed a little more towards #7… I’m… still… holding… out… hope… Time is ticking though. February 8th is right around the corner. Make something happen! Go Bulls.
