February 29, 2020: Leap Ahead

Leap day! How would you do it if your birthday was on February 29th? My dad missed by one day; HBD DAD BTW. Would you celebrate every year on the day before or after your real birthday? Would you just celebrate every 4 years and go balls out, comparing the celebration of your birthday to the Olympics or the World Cup? Was thinking about that…

This particular leap day brings us back to floor hockey for the rematch against the still undefeated first place team. The team is legit; they were easily the best team we played all year. From talking to some of the other parents, they had an easy answer; they were older than any other team in the league. Yes, at this young age, a couple years makes a huge difference. I was also told that they had a couple 10 year olds on their team… As long as the kid was 9 when the league began, they were still eligible to play in the 7-9 league. Heck, when one of their kids snapped a top shelf goal on this Saturday morning past our goalie, I wanted to pull his birth certificate; surely this kid was more than 10 years old… anyways, we will try to overcome.

The rest of the teams in the league are pretty evenly matched; even the last place team is decent. But this team… although… the last game they played before us, they only won by 1 goal; they’re not unbeatable. On this morning, in the second game in two days against us, it certainly felt like that. No need to get into the gory details; final score 9-3.

But this does not mean that generic drugs are worthless. cheap online levitra However when something goes wrong with a vital member of the body, this generic sildenafil has actually a direct effect on our emotions, especially the self esteem. I thought, maybe I shouldn’t have told the kids that this game really didn’t matter in the big scheme of things. I did try to double back on that, but I had already said it; I meant it too. I meant what I said after the game too. I said forget about this game; it’s done. No need for the kids to take this game with them after they left the court. I also looked at them and told them that if we play our best, we could beat anybody; yeah, I meant that too. Will we meet this time again with the championship on the line? We don’t have to worry about that yet.

Next up is a playoff matchup with the other team that beat us twice; they were both close, hard fought games. For some reason, although the talent level is very even, this team just seems to matchup well with us. I think these kids have been playing together for a while, maybe in other leagues at other parks too. I remember something like that… Our first year in the floor hockey league was with this team; I wasn’t the head coach, but instead helped the coach out. Last year, he made the jump to the next age level with his son, and the head coach spot became open. This year, now that we’ve made the jump, we will face off with a trip to the championship game on the line.

OK, stage is set. I want to think of some cool strategy to run in the playoff game; I’d love to get a practice together to prepare. At this point, it’s still early, but I think we’ll just be winging it…
