February 4, 2021: Yes It Is

Man, people are pushing hard to get Deshaun Watson to Chicago huh? Where were all of you 4 years ago? Haha… Well, THIS guy wanted Deshaun Watson back then, figuring he’d be the safest bet out of all the top projected QBs at the time. Maybe you were a big Mahomes guy at the time? Maybe you were thrilled to get Trubisky? I was unhappy at the time of the draft pick, not understanding why we traded up to get a guy we could have got where we were. I was also unhappy because I wanted Watson. But hey, I couldn’t blame Pace for taking a big swing at it, after all, it is the franchise QB that we’ve been searching for my entire lifetime; maybe we got him. Maybe we didn’t…

Yes, the swing and the miss has been well documented. In my opinion, it should have cost Pace his job, but here we are. We’re back in the same boat, without a QB to hang out hat on; unfortunately, we’re used to it. Now, we begin the search again. Now, we think because Deshaun wants out of Houston that we’ll be able to bring him to Chicago, 4 years later than he should have been here. Now, we’ll have to mortgage more first round draft picks plus our top defensive talent to do it. Timing has never been the Bears strong suit, neither has been coming out on the better side of a trade, but if all of that meant finally landing our franchise QB, it would be worth it, right?

Are we that convinced that Watson is the guy? Knowing what we know now… seeing him play in the league for 4 years. Sure, he’s better than what we’ve got; there’s no question about that. Is he THE guy though? I guess it doesn’t matter what we think… does Pace think it? Do we trust him anyways? What does Nagy think? Do we trust him? Landing a franchise QB isn’t easy, unless you’re the Packers, who happened to get 2 in a row; lucky ass bitches. Figuring out if mortgaging the best of what we currently have is worth it, isn’t for the faint of heart. We did it once 4 years ago; that didn’t work out so well. Will it work out this time?

Well, I certainly think we have to take another big swing, whether it’s with Watson or somebody else. I’m OK with giving up draft picks, but hate the idea of having to give up Roquan and/or Jaylon, yet, for a franchise QB, any price would be acceptable at the end of the day. To finally get that guy, to watch him play in a Bears uniform each and every Sunday, to see him lead our team to the playoffs, to watch him hoist the Super Bowl trophy… yeah, any price would be worth it. But there’s no telling the future… there are no guarantees. Hell, imagine if we finally got our guy and did NOT win a Super Bowl, a la Dan Marino with the Dolphins… that would be just our luck…

Getting that franchise QB should be the number one goal this offseason. In my opinion, it needs to be a two fold approach. We need to sign or trade for a QB AND we need to draft one. I don’t know who the right choice is in either case, but we need to do both. The more shots at it the better; we’ll hit eventually, right? Right? Well, at least we can relax that this decision is in Pace’s hands… since he already missed on one, he’s due right? Haha… here’s hoping. Bear Down!
