February 6, 2024: Comeback Kings

How about those Bulls? Huh? Are we talking about the Bulls, who have trailed by the scores of 71-52 and 69-47 the last two games at halftime vs the Kings and Timberwolves respectively? Yes, yes we are. I’ll say this much about this Bulls team that has frustrated me all season long… they don’t give up. I like that.

They didn’t complete the comeback against the Kings on Saturday night; it was a hell of a try. It wasn’t just a 19 point deficit either; they went down by 30 in the 3rd quarter, and had a legitimate chance to win this game. I thought, finally… all these years after the Kings completed a sick comeback against the Bulls when my wife and I were in attendance, the Bulls would pay them back. Nope, not quite. Still, I like the spirit.

Fast forward to Tuesday night at the UC, and the same scenario plays out. The T-Wolves pull out to a big lead; honestly, it was a laugher… this game is over. Damn I wish I would have bet Minnesota; not so quick my friends. The Bulls come storming back, send the game to OT, and take it down; wow what a victory. This Bulls team IS for real. They CAN make a playoff run. #7 here we come! Pump the brakes there partner.

Yes, the last 2 nights at the UC have been exciting, and yes, those teams were among the best in the Western Conference, but let’s not get carried away; I’m not booking tickets to a playoff series or anything like that. However, this never say die attitude… I love that from my teams. Bravo! There is something here… what exactly it is, and what it means long term, not sure. But… for all the negative talk about Donovan, the guys haven’t quit on him. Is this a nice reflection on the Bulls coach? I would say yes. I attribute this to the team’s attitude without Zach as well. We saw a little boost when Zach first went out. We saw the team look like they actually enjoyed playing together. Now you still have the big mope Vooch out there, but Coby is a sparkplug, legit. I do think most of the guys like playing together, which is saying something. It doesn’t address the fact that we need another 20 point per night scorer, which is needed to take any type of step towards the middle/top of the conference, but it’s a starting point.

With the trade deadline looming, the Bulls should be minus a few players going forward, but who knows. Maybe AKME deals for somebody… haha… adds to this current roster. I don’t care what it is, but I want the Bulls to do something, anything. We have something here… is this something worth building on? Yes. Does this mean we have to do some subtraction before addition? I think so. But again, just do something. Seeing the comeback kings in action the past couple games has been exciting as hell; seeing the front office actually do something to better position this roster going forward… well, I’m not asking for too much, am I? Go Bulls!
