January 12, 2021: Going Going

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Cubs | 1

OK, now that we’ve established the first two people that have to go for the Bears, Pace & Trubisky in case you didn’t read yesterday, let’s talk about some other Chicago guys that are already gone; we’ll get back to the Bears shortly.

Kyle Schwarber signed a one year deal with the Nationals. It’s kind of anti-climatic for me. Once the Cubs didn’t pay him originally, I knew nothing would be worked out for him to stay here; he was for all extensive purposes gone at that point. Now, it’s official, official. I’ll miss Kyle. I know there were many guys who could have won MVP in that 2016 World Series, including Ben who did win it, and was deserving, but I wouldn’t have been mad for one second had Kyle taken home the honors. His return that October and November after missing the whole year was one of the most important things that happened in that series. Was talking to my father in law the other day… He, like many Sox fans over the years, would always talk about Schwarber… he’s not that good, Cubs should get rid of him, etc. Now that he’s gone, he’s like… why’d the Cubs let him go… they’re going to miss him… funny, haha. I guess it’s just that smack talking about the Cubs that many enjoy, including another Sox fan I talked to today. He actually wanted the Sox to sign him… oh man. Anyways, I wish Kyle best of luck in Washington, as long as his interests don’t interfere with our interests.

Corey Crawford… wow. He will not play one game in goal for the Devils, as he announced his retirement. I hope he’s OK. He had his issues with concussions over the years; this is why I wanted to go the Lehner route last year, and let Crow ride out into the sunset. But nooooo… the Hawks ended up with neither, but after further review, Crow will ride out into the sunset, and will retire only playing for the Chicago Blackhawks; selfishly, that has a nice ring to it. I love those guys that have played for one of my teams their entire career; you don’t get that so much any more. Yet, most importantly, hope he’s at peace with it; hope he’s healthy now, and this is more of a preventive type move. Because one more collision in the crease… I’m sure Crow has got enough socked away to make this happen financially, and he will always be remembered for his 2 Cups with the Hawks. When it’s all said and done, he’s one of the best Blackhawks goalies of all time. Congrats Corey.

I guess it’s just another sign of getting older, seeing more and more guys I’ve cheered for moving on, retiring. You stay around long enough, you’ll see more and more of this. Some you couldn’t wait to see go, and some, like these two guys, you’ll definitely miss. Good luck guys… now let’s back to some more Bears decisions.

Actually, I still hold to that Almora should have been MVP. He won the game with his baserunning.

Holding out for hockey now. Did they ever release anything about Toews?
