January 15, 2020: Double Duty

I don’t like when the Bulls & Blackhawks play on the same day. It’s OK if one plays early and one plays late, but when they’re both going at the same time, it’s not easy. It’s not easy keeping up with both games simultaneously. It takes all of my remote control expertise, my channel flipping prowess to monitor both games to the finish. If one team is blowing out the other, or if they’re getting blown out, then it’s an easier choice. Still, I would prefer to focus on one or the other.

Wednesday night brought the most recent occurrence of this; it happens more than you think. The Blackhawks started 19 days before the Bulls, so we didn’t risk this scenario. But since the Bulls have started their season on 10/23, the Bulls and Blackhawks have played on the same day 17 times!!! That’s crazy. Wednesday night was only the 3rd time all year where both teams won. When they pulled off this feat, I was shocked. They hadn’t done this since??? 4 days earlier; yeah, I was surprised too. The first time it happened this year was on December 21st. 3 out of 17 ain’t too good.

I thought the Bulls would have ruined this double victory opportunity the most. Out of the 17 times the Bulls and Blackhawks played on the same day, the Bulls have lost 10 times; the Blackhawks have lost 11 times! Yeah, I was surprised too. There have been 7 times where both teams have lost, again, compared to the 3 times where both have won. It makes sense, since they’re both having rough years. So when a night happens like Wednesday night, you really have to appreciate it.

Maybe they’re both heating up??? The 3 double wins have come in the last 5 times they’ve played on the same day; this comes after not accomplishing this feat the first 12 times it happened! Maybe we’re seeing a turning of the tide?

Certainly, the Blackhawks have been playing better. Winners of their last 3 in a row, the Blackhawks have surged out of last place and have the last wild card spot in their sight. The Hawks have actually won 6 out of their last 7 games on the road! That’s a good sign. Still, they’re 4 points out of that last spot, with a whole lot of company. They need to keep winning, simple. A Saturday date in Toronto is next.

Meanwhile the Bulls have won 2 of their last 3; hey, you have to start somewhere. They’ll be looking to win 2 games in a row for only the 3rd time all season when they play the Sixers in Philly on Friday night; not likely. The Bulls will face the Cavs at home on Saturday, which presents the next opportunity for both teams to win on the same day. After that, we’ll have to wait over 3 weeks for that next chance…

And that’s fine with me. They need to create their schedules to not play on the same day; it’s easier that way. I’m tired of pulling double duty. Although if that meant two wins each time, I would be more than glad to do it. Let’s go UC boys!
