January 16, 2024: Finding An Edge

In this world of sports investments (aka sports gambling), you’re always trying to find an edge. I listen to and read so much shit… I just don’t have enough time, really. I need to get more efficient. I need to better document what I do, what angles I like, what works, what doesn’t, etc… I did start tracking some stuff, but that’s fallen off; again, not enough time. Still, I’m moving forward. With only 7 NFL games left, that opens up more time to look at other stuff, besides the NBA and NHL; welcome College Basketball!

Here’s kind of my routine. I’ll research the games the night before. I’ll say “research” lightly, because I really don’t get to do any deep dives; I’m just scratching the surface. One of my favorite things to look at, are the previous matchups between the two teams. I really like this angle. Which team won the previous matchup? Has one team won multiple matchups? Has the last game resulted in a blowout? Was there something memorable about the time these two teams tangled? Next, I’ll look at the recent schedule for both teams. Sometimes, I’m lead to look at the standings, and a team’s home and away record. Maybe I’ll even check the team stats, and compare them. Again, all of this is just scratching the surface. If I identify teams that I like, I’ll note them; I’ll also note the line for the game at that time. I do this for the NBA, NHL, and College Basketball.

The next day, game day I’ll review the teams that I notated; do I still feel the same way? Has the line moved? Where is the action? Which team has more of the bets? Which team has more of the handle? If everything still looks OK, I’ll lock it in. On Tuesday, I didn’t notate any NBA or NHL games; I did select 4 College Basketball games. All 4 of these games fell into a really good spot: Small unranked home favorites vs ranked opponents. Last week, this spot was on fire; I only took advantage of one of these games. I bet on all 4 of them on this day; how’d I do?

Cincy -3 TCU: 81-77 winner. This was a crazy one; I was following on my phone. Cincy guy misses two free throws at the end of the game, then TCU missed a free throw, so this was settled in OT. When Cincy made 2 free throws late, I hit my first W of the night.

Kansas State -1 Baylor: 68-64 winner. Another OT game. I stopped following when it got to OT, and was pleasantly surprised when I found out the result.

BYU -4.5 Iowa State: 87-72 winner. Finally, no sweat.

New Mexico -6 Utah St: 99-86 winner. Yeah, no shit… 4 for 4. Boo ya!

So, the trend hit… big time. Any qualifiers for Wednesday night? Looking at LSU -3 over Ole Miss.

The investment portfolio is at an all-time high this week; hope to keep that trending the right direction. Who to choose in the NFL this weekend??? Good luck to us all!
