Where will you be watching the Bears Eagles game on Sunday? Maybe you’re lucky enough to go to the game. I checked out tickets; $300 minimum to get in. We’ve been to our Bears game for the year. Or maybe you’re heading out to one of the 1000s of bars in Chicago to watch; that’s always a good time. Even if you’re not in Chicago, maybe you’re lucky enough to have a Bears bar in your area; I hit the one in Burbank, California a couple times while I lived out there. Good times. Could be heading over to someone’s house… family or friends. We had a routine for a while at a couple different locales; one was my buddy’s house, and one was my apartment; that lasted for years. No, for me, it’s sitting right in front of the TV watching the game from my couch; that’s the choice option at this point.
My son has really gotten into it this year, which is really cool; my wife too. She may talk crap from time to time, and she may not be on the couch next to us for the whole game, but guess who’s making the halftime spread? Yep, we’ll all sit at the table at halftime and eat lunch. I enjoy the hell out of that. She can’t sit next to us on the couch anyways, because we’re busy playing couch football. It’s one of those L shaped couches. My son grabs the football, and we each have to get to the opposite side of the couch to score our touchdown. For a while, he would run routes in our basement while I’d fire the ball to him; with the Christmas decorations up, that’s been put on hold; back to the couch. He picks the teams that we’ll each be; we’ve actually made a list. Yes, we’ve made a list of all 32 teams in the NFL. It’s not important to go through the rest of the 30 teams; all you need to know is the Bears are 1 and the Packers are 32. Yeah, I’m raising him right.
These games get pretty physical; he really gets into it. He’s getting stronger every day too; I think he’d be a hell of a running back or maybe a linebacker. We play up to like 100. Every 5th play or so, one of us gets hurt; it’s mostly him. He gets mad when I give him the business, you know the extracurricular activity after the “play” is over. It’s a blast. We even played a game on New Year’s Day when the family gathering was over. This time it would be me that got hurt. He had done it once before; threw his head back when I had him wrapped up for the tackle. It stung, but it was all good. I’m usually pretty good at avoiding it; I’m trying to tell him not to whip his head back like that. He’s got a hard head… go figure. Yep, this time he got me good… so good, that I went back to work on the 2nd with a shiner. Yep, it turned purple right underneath my left eye. When it happened, I jumped up, yelled “Jesus Christ”, and almost punched the wall; that shit hurt. But I immediately calmed down as he began to cry. I grabbed him and hugged him; told him I’d be fine. Game was over though; ice pack on the face time.
Ah, these are the days… they really are. I think we’ll give it a break as my face returns back to normal, but when the Bears game kicks off on Sunday afternoon, we will be back on the couch. Maybe we need to start wearing helmets…

Couch football, sounds pretty cool! We usually have little football games during commercials. Always have to be throwing the football around during the game. There is no better place to watch a game than your own home. Yes, it is awesome to be at a game or go somewhere to watch it. The Bears bar in CA was cool. The apartment was always the hub for everything, not just games. 2 days and playoff football is back in Chicago! I cannot wait. I want to pound the iggles and give the rams the rematch they want, this time in la. Bring it! DA Bears are ready, and so am I! Meanwhile, ice that eye and watch that flying noggin…hahaha. BEAR DOWN!!!
