Well, it had been a nice start to my returning to sports betting; funny how that works when you get a bunch of bonus bets. I think I won 5 out of those 8, plus a few others, to build up that bankroll up to almost $300, up from my original $100 investment. Since then though, I’ve been on a bit of a losing streak… and so it begins. I always say Vegas wasn’t built on winners…
I’ll tell you, whoever makes the lines on these games… they’re good, really good; I should have known this already. But I thought that with the possibility of live betting each game at your fingertips, there would be opportunities; there is no way the linemakers could keep up with every single minute of every single game. There has to be some formula, some algorithm that they use, always keeping at the forefront, where the splits are with the money wagered, ensuring a “win” however the game turns out. Actually, the more I think about it, this in-game, live betting stuff actually HELPS Vegas. They can control that to sway money one way or another, essentially covering themselves against the original bets and/or increasing the huge win they’ll have over us stupid bettors. It’s crazy; it’s an art really, and then when you need help, you have the refs… or maybe a kicker pulling an extra point or field goal, or somebody throwing away a pass late in a b-ball game. It’s a fricking racket; no matter how smart you think you are, at the end of the day, you just have to hope to be on the right side of all of this stuff going on.
I’ve been on the wrong side of it lately; don’t even want to look up how many losses in a row I have, and oh yeah, one push… that’s some BS, let me tell you. But, but… I HAVE been smart about it; I’ve followed my own advice and have been betting small, so… even after this losing streak, I’m still only down like $40. That can be made back up quick, but, if you try to chase, you’ll fall into another trap; it’s not easy. You feel the pressure, like, I need to get a win back… and then start doing stupid stuff. It’s all about patience, and discipline; will I be able to maintain through all of this, the above, and more?
Bottom line, it hasn’t been consuming me… not totally. I haven’t been showing the effects of this losing streak; may need to check with my wife to be sure, but… I’m taking it in stride. Maybe if the stakes were higher, it might be a different story. For now, I’ll just keep wading around in the shallow end of the pool, enjoying the action, watching, learning… waiting to pick a spot to increase the wager; maybe this weekend?
