January 29, 2020: Kris Loses

Finally, the decision was made in the Kris Bryant case. Kris loses, and that means the Cubs win. The Cubs now have KB under control through the end of 2021. What does it all mean?

Major league teams can continue to mess with young players coming up regarding their service time. They can continue to manipulate their time in the bigs, regardless if they should be there or not, to ensure another year of control for a player in their system. Is it that unfair? Surely back in 2015, Bryant was deserving to be on the Opening Day roster. I don’t think anybody can say straight-faced that he shouldn’t have been. He killed it in Spring Training, and only had Mike Olt, if my memory serves me correct, standing between him and the starting 3B job in Wrigley that he should hold until the end of his career. Cubs sent him down; I remember it was to “work on his defense”… haha. Good one. Yet, what would you do if you were the Cubs? Here’s this generational talent that you want to keep for as long as possible before he potentially becomes a free agent. The Cubs were playing within the rules then; those rules were proven to still be valid today. Don’t hate the Cubs for that. If you’re pissed, be mad at MLB for the rule.

Is Kris mad about losing? I don’t think so, but what do I know. Kris seemed to be very respectful through the whole, drawn out process; the Cubs were as well. I’m sure they were a little annoyed with the length of arriving at a decision, not knowing the status of KB after this year until today. Still, Kris was fighting for a bigger cause I think; yes, the case was against the Cubs, but if he did win, he would have most likely forced MLB to change this rule, right? I don’t know. I’m happy that we have KB under control for another year, no doubt. I just hope that doesn’t mean we’re going to move him now.

Any move of KB would be stupid in my humble opinion. Sure, do I like Arenado? Of course; who wouldn’t? But you can say the same about KB, and he’s ours. Why not keep this guy? Why not lock him up, eliminate all this BS, cut the drama, and pay this man his money. Yes, the injuries, the agent, does he want to be here… all things to consider… I guess. I don’t know… Why would we trade a HOF player? That’s how I look at Bryant. It would be like trading Greg Maddux; oh wait… Anybody else come to mind? Lou Brock. OK, maybe we didn’t know in Brock’s case, but we had enough evidence with Maddux, right? We surely have enough evidence with KB: rookie of the year, MVP, World Series champion. Any questions?

This whole money thing is jamming the Cubs up. Yeah, I believe the Cubs can spend more money, but they do have one of the biggest payrolls in the majors. Spending a lot of money on players that don’t deserve it doesn’t help; Jason Heyward is the biggest example of that. I’m sure if they went to JHey and tried to convert the deal into a longer years, less per year, team friendly deal, he would take it, no? The Cubs need to get creative; they have the brainpower at GM with Theo and corp to do it. Souza & Jeffries are OK; I don’t need anybody else right now. What I would like to see is locking one of OUR guys up… positioning ourselves for later this year, and the next couple years. Baez, Rizzo, Contreras, and yes, KB… pick one, two, whatever… lock them up. Provide some good mojo heading into the season; it’s almost here. Can’t wait. Go Cubs!

Not really how it’s being said that Bryant ‘lost’! I mean, he’s crying about the process, and he’s upset about being a Cub for another 2 seasons, and he probably wants more money!! Boo-f’n-Hoo. If you don’t wanna be here, maybe you shouldn’t be here then. I don’t know what his actual salary is, but I’m quite certain that it’s more than enough to be ‘comfortable’ even if he retired tomorrow! Forgive me if I don’t bust out my ‘crying towel’. I’m getting pretty tired of listening to all of these sports figures who are making multiple MILLIONS every year, complain about…… ANYTHING. If you don’t like what you’re doing, or who you’re doing it with or for, quit!!!
