January 6, 2021: Late Night Surprise

posted in: Bulls | 0

Totally forgot about the Bulls being on… When I found out, I had already committed to watching the Harry Caray special; when I flipped over during a commercial, the Bulls were down big… no surprise. Next time I flipped over, they were a little closer. By the time the show was over, and I locked in, the Bulls were actually in the game; this was a nice, late night surprise. Could they actually pull it off?

Carmelo Anthony is still playing? What the hell… He’s still hitting shots though. I used to really like Melo; it started when he was at Syracuse. I was a big fan, especially when he lead the Orange to the NCAA Title, helping me win the brackets that year. You win me money, you good in my book. Nice career in Denver then New York. Don’t like the whole tease he played with the Bulls, but whatever.

Another tidbit about this game. Did you know that Boylen, yes, Jim Boylen, was brought in to be a defensive consultant for the Blazers, yes, the Portland Trailblazers of the NBA? O, M, G! Somebody threw him a bone; that’s the only explanation here, because anybody in their right mind would not call Boylen in for any advice, let alone about defense. I’m just glad he’s not coach of the Bulls, or frankly anywhere near this team. The coaching change alone should be good for 5-7 more wins this year. Speaking about wins…

Up one, 30 seconds left, Lavine with the ball… don’t chuck up a 3 pointer, don’t chuck up a 3 pointer… take it to the hole, take it to the hole… he stepped back, a few feet behind the 3 point line, and shot it… No!!! Yes!!! Nothing but net; man that’s a sweet sound. You can hear a lot more of those “sounds of the game” with an empty arena. That splash looks really good too. Bulls up 4; nice! Of course Lilliard comes down and hits a trey; 1 point game. Coby fouled; hit two big foul shots. Last chance for the Blazers… Lillard again, right? Nope… Melo! There’s that man again…brick city; isn’t that Portland’s nickname? Haha… Bulls win baby!

Bulls at 500? Yes sir. They gave up only 108 points for the second straight game, both wins by the way, and yeah, that’s good compared to how the season had started. It must be that Boylen defensive philosophy wearing off, and the Donovan coaching sinking in. I’m telling you… 5-7 more wins, minimum! Next up is another potential win on the West Coast, Wednesday night, in Sacramento. Yes, I love these late night games; going to miss that with the Blackhawks this year. A win against the Kings would bump the Bulls over 500, and if not into, on the brink of the playoffs after 9 games! The past couple years it’s been about time to roll out the tanks at this point… haha.

Yeah, I’m feeling pretty good about my pre-season “guarantee” that the Bulls would make the playoffs. We’ll see… long way to go, but the Bulls are going to be better. They’re not top tier by any means, but they’re not what their record has shown the last couple years. They’re somewhere in between, and that should mean playoffs; damn right. Go Bulls!
