For the first time on Wednesday, I rode the 606 from start to finish. This makes sense because this is the first time I’ve had a bike since the 606 opened up. The 606 is a beautiful, elevated path built that runs for about 2.5 miles, cutting east & west through the city’s neighborhoods; it gets you a couple miles outside of downtown. Many walkers, bikers, dogs, strollers, etc; lots of traffic. Masks required at this point. It really is sweet.
Masks were about 50/50. When I walk my dog around the neighborhood, I’m not wearing my mask; when I’m running through the neighborhood (rarely), I’m not wearing my mask. Maybe I should be, but I’m outside not really around anybody; I think it’s safe. On the 606, with the number of people up there, it makes sense to mask up. I fricking hate wearing a mask, but we do what we have to do. With all the traffic up there, there have to be accidents that happen; we didn’t see any. The bikers that are flying down the path, weaving around people, are the cause of most I imagine. Yes we were biking, but not fast like that. We probably had about 20 bikers pass us up on our trek east towards Ashland; that’s cool. I’m neither in a hurry, nor can I pedal that fast. We got to where we needed to get to.
A little bit of outside dining and beers were on the menu. With my son away for a couple nights, my wife and I needed to take advantage. Time spent alone with my wife is pretty rare in general, especially nowadays. It’s actually pretty nice; we need to do it more often, or maybe that’s the beers talking… haha. It’s kind of like that unplugging that everybody needs; to hang out just her and I is something we need to do every so often. It’s healthy.

We walked over there, and after verifying that it would not hold air, threw the bikes in the back of his minivan, and were eventually given a ride home. It was nice to see her aunt and uncle, and her aunt’s mother, and her cousin and husband who just happen to have swung by. We hung out in front for a while BSing… that time hanging out with family is what’s been missing too during this whole COVID deal. We all need that as well.
Now I have to get my tire fixed; her cousin’s husband asked me if I ever fixed bikes when I was a kid. I told him no, I was just trying to make sure it didn’t get stolen; I did OK in that area, although there was a close call and there were pegs taken off my bike on Easter one year. That reminds me… I need to call the bike shop to see if they can get this fixed up; I also broke my left brake off the handlebars… that’s what I get for buying a bike at Walmart. Need to get it fixed ASAP, so we can head back out. Calling now…
