Took a ride Friday night; been taking a lot of those. What else is there really to do? What else do you really WANT to do right now? Sure, we’ve eaten outside a couple times; we’ve went back to some stores… a couple. Other than that, and the outdoor stuff we did on our stay-cation, we’ve been pretty much laying low. On the way back from our ride, I took a little detour…

Starting in Evanston on Chicago Ave cruising south where it turns into Clark, we were looking for some ice cream; I knew we’d find some eventually. Nothing big, just a couple scoops at Baskin Robbins, which on this day, the 31st, were cheaper than normal; bonus time! Still a bit more to go before we would see the lights…

Yes, a place that would normally have about 40,000 people inside of it for a summer night game, and as many or more people in the surrounding neighborhood, we drove past an empty Wrigley Field; weird.

I cut down Waveland, looking to see if there was anybody out there waiting for someone to hit it over the left field bleachers; there was. There were people that had chairs setup; they were chilling. The nice thing was that you could still hear all the sounds of the game, besides the crowd of course. I heard the music playing; I heard the PA announcer tell us that Ian Happ was next up at bat for the Cubs. Yeah, this may have to be what we settle for this year. Being robbed of our multiple Cubs games this year, we will find a way to get close to the action. Setting up some chairs on Waveland, bringing our gloves, some snacks… yeah, my son and I could hang out for a while. I wonder if the night game parking restrictions are still in place…

I turned down Sheffield heading towards the first base line. The rooftops are open… I saw those prices; not pretty. Would I still do it? Maybe; doubt I would get approval to bring my son with me… pretty sure I would strongly be told to consider it myself. That’s OK. Enjoying a summer night outside of Wrigley, minus the crowds, listening to the game; yeah, I think I’d like that… I’d think my son would like it too, for a while. I may have to let him play on my phone for a bit if I want to stay more than a few innings; that’s OK too.

Inside the Cubs were busy starting another series off with a win. After getting smoked by the Reds in what turned out to be the series finale thanks to a rain delay, the Cubs took down the Pirates 6-3. My son did notice the flags flying in the park; he did notice the Cubs flag on top in the middle. Yep, that means the Cubs are in first place.

It’ll have to do… all of it. I just hope nobody screws it up, like the Marlins tried to. Now I hear maybe another one of my favorite teams may have F’d up… let’s just get through the year boys. Now that I have baseball back, I’d hate to see it go away again. We all have to do what we have to do this year; suck it up and get through it. Go Cubs!
