Although we’ll only see the Brewers, Cardinals, Pirates, Reds, White Sox, Indians, Tigers, Royals, and Twins, we’ll still need to pitch the ball, hit the ball, catch the ball, and run the bases. With that being said, all it takes is one good run of baseball, one good month, and you can put yourself in great position. You don’t need to be good over an extended amount of time; you need to go on a hot streak day 1, and you’ll be good. Will a shortened season help speed up that hype train? I think the shortened season could help any team; it could help any flawed team. The flaws can be covered up in the short term; in 162, sure, there will always be flawed teams, but a lot of that gets shaken out over time. No shaking out… get hot, get in, and you could be the 2020 World Series champ. Those battle hardened teams that may take a minute to get into their groove, could be in trouble… do the Cubs fall into that category? On the flip side, you don’t have to save yourself for 162; go balls out from the get go. It will be different.
Whatever I say; selfishly, I’m just ready for live sports to begin. I’ve missed Cubs baseball most of all. To see them on the field, any field, fans or not, will be a welcome sight. Play ball!
