July 8, 2020: The Mega Deal

Will Mitch Trubisky forever be linked with Patrick Mahomes? As the 10 year mega deal was announced, all you see was people talking crap about Mitch. Get a fricking life people!

Congrats to Patrick. Whole lot of money coming your way. He has played great, and has already won a Super Bowl. Does he deserve all this money at this point? Well, it’s an investment by the Chiefs no doubt. And as the years go on, the actual percentage of the cap that will be spent on him will go down. In year 9, will Mahomes be underpaid? Think the long term Scottie Pippen deal that I’m sure sounded great at the start, didn’t look so good at the end. Still, that’s a lot of damn money anyway you cut it; how much guaranteed? I don’t hate Mahomes; I certainly wouldn’t wish injury upon him. Do I think he’s going to be at the Montana, Bradshaw, Brady level when it’s all said and done? Hmmm… Keep those Super Bowl wins coming buddy.

Back to Trubisky… I saw something funny on Twitter. The Bears didn’t miss out on drafting Mahomes; they actually saved $450 million dollars… haha. Something like that… OK, rewind back to the draft day, and of course, who wouldn’t have taken Mahomes. Of course the fact that we chose another QB, which by the way, many “experts” and other teams would have done the same thing at the time, and the fact that Mitch had a brutal season last year, and is nowhere near Mahomes at this point, just makes it all worse. So what? Trubisky isn’t Mahomes? Tell me somebody else who is OK? Yeah, the stories that Pace was locked on Mitch and didn’t properly evaluate the other QB options at the time hurts to hear, and yes, I was pissed when the pick was made, especially after the trade up; I wanted Watson. Still…

I’m not throwing in the towel on Mitch yet. I know I may be in the minority here, and that’s OK. We’ll all know after the year is over; if the year is played… Imagine for a second the NFL season gets cancelled; I know, that would be a fricking nightmare. But if it did, how do the contracts work? Would Mitch no longer be under contract starting next year? Would the Bears ink him to a 1 year show me deal, like what is expected from this, the final year of his current contract?

Trubisky doesn’t have to be Mahomes. He needs to play a whole hell of a lot better than he has, sure. But if we’re expecting Mitch to be better than Patrick, we’re in for disappointment; maybe that disappointment has helped people give up on Mitch already… oh yeah, and all his shitty passes. Anyways, Mahomes could be a generational type talent; the Chiefs certainly think so. Not many of these guys out there. Yes, we could have had him… I know, I know… sucks OK, but we didn’t… there are 30 other teams who don’t have him either. Easy to look back at what every team should have done in each of their drafts going back to the beginning of time.

I’m sick of the two being linked. Let Mahomes continue to be great. Let Trubisky figure it out. Would I love to see a Trubisky led Bears team beat a Mahomes led Chiefs team in the Super Bowl? Sure; hell yeah! Am I dreaming again? We’ll know about 7 months from now…
