June 1, 2014: Game 7

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 2

Trying to think back in my head, without looking it up, I don’t remember many game 7s. That is, game 7s that involved Chicago teams. It is the ultimate game in sports. Everything is on the line for BOTH teams. There is no tomorrow for one of the teams. Only one team moves on. I can remember a few.

I remember the bulls pacers in the conference finals either in 97 or 98. That was an ugly series, but I was never really worried.  Game 7 was an ugly game too if my memory serves me right. (Again, I’m doing this without looking it up). It was ugly and beautiful at the same time because the bulls moved on.  I believe one of the bulls Knicks series went 7.  That was the game where Jordan stole the ball, went down and  lost the ball, then raced down the court to block X-man out of bounds.  That was pure desire. The best player in the game skill wise, that had the refuse to lose attitude. He would do whatever it took NOT to lose.  That is a dangerous combination.  Six titles prove that.

I think that was it for the bulls during the Jordan era, at least the ones they won. I’m not going to rehash the losses. We don’t need any negative energy right now.  Another recent game 7 was vs Brooklyn last year. Another player with not quite as much skill, but the same desire, led the bulls that night. Joakim Noah has IT too.  He’ll do anything for that team to win. That’s why I love him. You have to love any player with that desire. We have a few that we’re watching now.

The Blackhawks did have a recent game 7 victory, last year vs Detroit. Talk about a ride. After hammer blasted what appeared to be the game winning goal, I was going nuts. Then, a penalty overturned it. Talk about a 360 switch of emotions.  Going to OT after that turn of events was stomach turning. Would this call go down as the worst ever?  Would this official make it out of the UC alive?  Well, it didn’t matter, as seabrook scored to win a very dramatic game 7. Now, a year later, we return to the scene.

Playing at that level, knowing that your season can end on that night, has got to build some mental fortitude. Having experience with that level has got to be a huge benefit. Both the kings and hawks have the experience. Momentum is big too. Momentum is clearly on the hawks side.  Having home ice would seem like a big advantage, and we have that. I guess that’s why the hawks are favored at -150 in tomorrow’s tilt.

How a series can change… From being down 3-1, to being favorites in game 7. It has been a thrill ride documented in detail here on this site.  Tonight is the culmination…the end of this ride.  I like our chances.

It will be one of the big guys, that is almost for sure. With toews, Kane, and the rest of our core, I have a lot of faith. Guys with the desire that matches the skill. Who will it be?  Predictions are welcome.

Mine goes like this:  hawks 3 kings 2. I want a blowout, but don’t think that will be. I’m not signing up for OT, although I wouldn’t be surprised.  Toews, Kane, and Sharp will score. Crawford will be awesome. We will advance. I really don’t care how it goes in game 7, as long as the hawks come out on top. Ready for the conclusion of this story? Game 7 is now.

I called the last game 4-3 hawks. Tonight, everyone will play tight defense, both goals will bear down and it will be a dog fight. I think Crawford and Quick will play the game of their lives. Hawks 2 LA 1. Hawk goals by Kane and Sharp. Kings goal – (who cares, probbly lucky) Go Hawks!!!
