June 11, 2021: What’s Next

And this concludes the series Baseball Seasons. It’s kind of funny that the last year they covered was 2005. It’s kind of funny what happened when I was watching it too.

I’ve had my struggles staying up; some episodes I had to pick up where I left off, or at least close to what I recall. Sometimes it took a few different late night viewings to get through a 45 minute episode. This 2005 one was like that, except, it was like, perfect. I stood up no problem watching it until the postseason. I saw the Washington Nationals make their re-entrance into the league. I saw the Atlanta Braves win their 14th straight division title; 14 straight?!?! Can you imagine that? I saw the Astros come back from their horrid start to make the playoffs as a wild card. I saw the White Sox hold on to win the division after losing 10 of 14 at one point in September; I really hop.. thought they were going to blow it.

Yes, it was still only 2 years removed from the catastrophic heartbreak that happened in 2003. While the Red Sox winning the following year may have provided hope, the White Sox winning it all in 2005 was brutal. I just remember after what happened in 03, and how happy some White Sox fans were… When the Sox made their run in 05, I couldn’t watch it; I didn’t want to actively root against them. I know a lot of Sox fans; my Dad is a Sox fan. I was happy for him, and for the city of Chicago. I just couldn’t do it… People were going to the bar to watch the playoff games, and I just went to bed; I slept through it, just as I slept through that portion of this episode. As I opened my eyes back up, the season wrap up was occurring; I’m not going to go back and re-watch what happened. I remember; yes, it did happen.

And boy oh boy, after the Sox won, it was relentless; the t-shirt with the middle finger with the World Series ring on it, saying this one is for you Cubs fans. Yeah, there was a lot of gloating, and more reminders of how the Cubs choked again. All I could say was, who will win the next one? The Sox fans felt pretty confident they would be back again; they weren’t. Well, they did make it back in 2008, and then again last year, but they never sniffed another World Series title. Meanwhile, 2016 happened, and the answer to the question who would win the next one was answered. The Cubs and Sox sit even at 3 World Series titles a piece. Overall, pretty sad if you ask me… but today, both of the Chicago teams sit in first place… we’ll see.

I wonder if the Cubs had won it in 2003, would I have been able to enjoy 2005 a bit more; I think so. I think if the Cubs had won it first, maybe I wouldn’t have been like I was. But things played out the way they did, and honestly, I did not get one single ounce of enjoyment out of the Sox title in 05; why should I? They’re not my team…

The next question for me is, what’s next? Finished up another feature on this website; I’ve done a few… check them out. I always have something else going on, besides of course the day to day that we can talk about with ease most of the time. I do like to shift the focus every now and then, especially when the teams are sucking it up. But that’s not the case right now… baseball on both sides of town is hot and heavy, and oh yeah, we’ll all be rooting for the same team, with a certain new QB come this fall. Fun times ahead, as always… well, most of the time. So goodbye Baseball Seasons; it was fun while it lasted.
