I love to play cards; always have. Growing up it was War with my grandmother and UNO & Rummy with my family. I loved to play all types of games; still do. But cards was always towards the top of the list. As I got older, this didn’t change. We used to play in my buddy’s basement with quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, as I began to learn all the different types of poker, and frankly, any type of card game you can bet on; I love to gamble too. Once we had our own apartments, the frequency of games increased. My apartment became poker central for a while there… pretty much any night was open season; it was a lot of fun. When I worked 3rd shift for a while, we would take our lunch at a local bar and play cards; that got ugly. The owner filled us with liquor and took our money, and oh yeah, since we weren’t “friends”, he wasn’t cutting any deals for the amount of money that was owed; oops… I paid him what I could and never saw him again. When I hit the age of 21, my dad took me to Vegas; hello casinos!!! Many, many Vegas trips… many, many trips to the local casinos. Shuffle up and deal!!!

Today, I don’t love playing cards any less. My wife fed into this by purchasing a casino game for all of us to play at the house; I’m pushing to play this every night… haha. If there was a casino for 8 year olds, my son would probably attend. We also play Go Fish, and simulate this game show called Catch 21. I know I have a gambling itch, but maybe it’s more of a competition itch? Maybe both.

Playing in person is almost non-existent today. I used to play with those buddies I played with in the basement 25 years ago once per year; we haven’t played since 2018. As far as the apartment “crew”, we haven’t played in longer. There is a guy that I work with that holds tournaments at his house occasionally; I think the last time we played was about 3 years ago. It’s probably OK… it’s not like I have the money to gamble at this point… but when has that ever mattered? Haha…

Yeah, welcome to 2020 online poker! My brother told me his friend had started up an online poker room… uh oh… What’s that itch I’m feeling? Yeah, so since we’re all at home anyways…. not doing crap… why not? I never really liked playing online; don’t trust it for one. Secondly, much better playing in person, talking shit, seeing facial expressions, bullshitting all night. It’s not quite the same online chatting… So I finally jumped on, and like that… I was down $100. Thankfully, I bounced back and won some money since then. I was positive for the month of May, and am positive for the month of June at this point; it may be July until I play again. Need to take a quick break… don’t want the scratching of that itch to turn into a rash. Next thing you know, it will be nightly, and our finished basement will become my new apartment… haha. Until the next card game…
