June 15, 2020: Still Hungry

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 0

OK, let’s keep this food theme going for a minute. Pretty confident we’ve been to the United Center more than any other venue in the city. I’ve been to Wrigley a ton, but when you’ve had season tickets two different times in your lifetime to go see the Bulls play, the games add up. A lot of the same concepts apply when going to the United Center.

When we had season tickets, we tried to go to as many games as possible. I can’t really remember too much from the first time around, back in the 1998-99 season. Yes, the season AFTER The Last Dance; I’ve told you how bad that was. The second time around began in the 2010-11 season. My wife and I had to go to at least 35 games that year; that was a fun season. I’ve been seeing some replays lately on TV; man, did I love that team. I do firmly believe that if Rose did not get injured, we would have #7. Anyways, back to eating.

Going to as many games as we did, there’s no way we can have a meal at each of them. Eating before we left the house was key. Still, when you’re there for a couple hours, you get hungry; I told you I was always hungry… I’m still hungry. Nachos is always an option, although they’re not nearly as good as the ones at Wrigley; neither is the pizza. I think they have Connie’s now; I don’t have an issue with that. A local joint, one that I grew up on, is the smart way to go. It’s not my favorite nowadays, but I did scoop a couple pizzas up a few weeks back when it was buy one get one free. But before that, when we were going all the time, the pizza choice at the UC was… DiGiorno’s?!?!? WTF man, really? We live in pizza heaven, and you’re going to offer that to all the folks that come see the Bulls and Blackhawks play? Talk about being cheap; that’s straight pathetic. We complained about that in every season ticket holder survey we took. Glad they finally got back to something decent. We have eaten at the nice restaurants in the UC. Whether for my wife’s birthday, or like last year to celebrate her graduation, those restaurants are really good… really expensive, special occasion only, but really good. Recently, we’ve tried some of those unique spots as you enter the UC from the atrium; very good.

If we didn’t eat, even if we did, and after the game is over, where to now? Well, the trip from the UC back home will take us past many places; again, try to resist… either don’t eat or snack back at home. But if it’s a must, we would stray out of our way a bit. Since we were that way, we would swing by Maxwell street for a couple polishes and/or pork chop sandwiches; that is never a bad choice. It may taste better when you’re drunk, but it never tastes bad. Hungry yet?

Well, that really is only part of the UC food story. Let’s take the rest to go and pick up some food around Sox park and Soldier Field next.
