We’re going to start slow and build up to what turned out to be a pretty good Sunday, which translates into a very nice start to the week.

22-6.  This was how badly the White Sox got outscored this weekend.  Kansas City has been hot, and they trashed the Sox this weekend.  Just when things are starting to look up, you get smacked back down.  As discussed, this rollercoaster of a summer will continue for both baseball teams.  Sox now 4 under .500, have 2 more home games before embarking on an 11 game road trip.  Don’t want to continue this trend.  Although only 5.5 games back, you do have every team in the division ahead of you.  Got Sale on the mound in the last home game of this home stand, that’s the good news.  Bad news is he will be matched up against Tim Hudson.  Talk about the fountain of youth; he’s on his way to the All Star game for the best team in the majors right now, the San Francisco Giants.  Let’s move on.

The Cubs won a series in Philadelphia.  Yes, this is significant.  The last time they won a series in Philly…. anyone, anyone?  2001.  Yep, 13 years ago.  They’ve NEVER won a series in the new Phillies stadium Citizens Bank Park, and won their first road series since last September.  Baby steps guys.  The Cubs, 11.5 games out, in the NL Central cellar, at 11 games below .500, take some positive momentum with them on their last series of this road trip in Florida.  They’ll start on a 10 game home stand at Wrigley, where they are actually above .500, on Thursday.  Kudos to Travis Wood who threw a 3-hitter through 8 innings on Sunday.  The starting pitching continues to be great, which will help the Cubs inch closer to .500… that is, before they start trading them away.  Damn.  I WAS feeling good.  Let’s hope they don’t trade the top 2 starters, and we start to gain some SERIOUS momentum the rest of this year.

On to the best news of the evening… the Spurs defeating the Heat for the NBA Finals trophy.  OK, I hate the Heat.  I hate Lebron.  I hate Wade.  They will be a future Hate Files entry, but not tonight.  Tonight, I don’t feel the hate flowing through me like the dark side of the force.  I feel satisfaction.  Maybe a little more than that.  Nothing compares to your team winning a title… nothing.  The next best thing, and it is a far 2nd, is to see a team that you hate get beat.  This is where I’m at.  They just didn’t get beat, they got beat down.  It was flat out embarrassing, and maybe that’s why Lebron sat out the last 7 minutes of the game.  Maybe that’s why he ran over to congratulate the Spurs before the game was even over.  Maybe that’s why he was the first one heading to the locker room.  Good.  So much for this Heat team winning 9 titles… Take your 2 and be happy.  Will Lebron and the Heat get another title?  Maybe.  All I know is that he is 2-3 in the Finals for his career, which is a losing record.  He would have been 1-4 if it wasn’t for Jesus Shuttlesworth hitting a miracle trey.  Yes, the hate files will have to wait…

It is nice to see a TRUE team win the NBA title.  It gives me faith that the Bulls can do it.  I think the Spurs and the Bulls are cut from the same cloth.  They are two of the last true teams in the NBA, that play team basketball, that play for each other and NOT the name on the back of their jersey, that play defense, that have great coaching, that have a dedicated fan base, that between them, have 11 NBA titles in the past 23 years.  They try to do it the right way, and not take the easy way out, like superstars scheming with other superstars to join up and make a mega team because they can’t lead their own team to a title… the LeBron way.  Although the Spurs did win this series and make me happy, we all know that they had no chance in 1999 if Reinsdorf opened up the check book and brought the band back for one more year.  In a strike shortened year, that Bulls team would have won their 7th trophy.  They would have made it to the Finals, and won, because we all know MJ’s record in the NBA finals.  Yep.

So not a bad way to start the week.  With the hockey and basketball season behind us for the year, we look to our baseball teams to give us some excitement on those up swings of the rollercoaster, and bridge that gap to Bears season.  With the Blackhawks already favored in Vegas to win the Cup next year, and an interesting offseason ahead for the Bulls, there is never a dull moment in Chicago.  For now, I’m rejoicing that the Heat are history.  That is just what the doctor ordered to help me get over the Blackhawks.  It doesn’t compare to winning a title of our own, but it sure feels good.  Bye Bye Lebron.  But he’ll be OK, I’m sure Midol will be hitting him up to lead their next marketing campaign.

yeah, way to be a leader. if that’s the way to be a ‘king’, i pity the followers. throwing in the towel without actually leading your team until the end. you must have been watching our series where i lead my team off the floor, not just the court, before the end of the game. i knew that because my middle name was ‘lord’ that everybody would follow me off the floor. we showed them!!!!! but hang in there, maybe carmello will jump ship and land up with the miami crybabies next year. then you’ll have 4 high-priced black holes that don’t understand that teamwork wins championships, not just self-proclaimed ‘superstars’!!!!!!!!!
