OK, let’s take a pause from the Vegas tales to write a few words about Father’s Day; I guess we can call it a Dad Break…

Being a Dad is the best thing ever; OK, how deep do I want to get here? To have someone that you helped create, someone that is your “mini-me”, someone that you can teach everything you know, someone that you hope will be better than you in every way, someone you will help along every step of the way, someone you will see grow from a baby boy that fit in your forearm to a man that will eventually be taller than you, someone who you will love no matter what, someone who will eventually have a life of his own, someone you hope will remember everything you did for them, someone who you pray to God will outlive you; that’s not too deep right?

It’s a blast. The thing is, as he gets older, as we experience more things together, the more memories come back from my own childhood. I’m so blessed to have nothing but good memories come rushing back. I can only hope to do as well with my son as my dad did with us.

Yeah, as you get older, you realize that even your Dad isn’t perfect; my son will realize that too… maybe he already does. And that’s OK… because none of us are. Even my son, who I think is absolutely perfect right now, will not be, although maybe in my eyes, in my mind I will try hard to believe it. But the object of life is not to be perfect, no matter how hard we try, because that is an impossible mission. All that can be expected of us is to try the best we can. I feel confident when I say that I do.

OK, let’s get back to ground level. How about a funny story? My son loves looking at his baby pictures; he loves looking at old videos of himself. I do too. We also love to tell stories about the first 8 years of his life. One of the funniest surrounds his potty training. Man, he fought that tooth and nail; of course, we knew he’d eventually get it. But for a while there… One specific time, after sitting on the toilet for a minute, knowing he had to crap, refusing to do it, I told him to get off. He did, put his diaper on, and walked straight to his room. When I came in there after him, he told me “OUT”!!! Yeah, I knew what was going on. As I sat in the other room with my wife, we smelled this awful stench; he comes walking out happy as can be, as he just took a big ol’ dump in his diaper. Hilarious… we always laugh at that one.

OK, let’s wrap it up. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads out there… my dad, my father in law, my bro, my brother in laws, my friends. Love you guys. 364 more days until we get to relax again… like we even got a chance to relax on this day… haha. It’s all good.
