OK, let’s put a bow on this Vegas trip, and get back to normal, whatever that is. I really showed my age that last night in Vegas, passing out at 11pm… pathetic. At least I didn’t lose any more money, although for the trip as a whole, I definitely came in under budget on the gambling side of things.

The night before I made my way to Gold Coast, the casino across the street from Rio; I was hoping they had a poker room. They didn’t, but they did have a shuttle that ran from Gold Coast to Orleans, and they had a poker room. If you could have seen me on the video once the guy told me that… I was hustling to the shuttle bus area only to find out it stopped running hours ago. Looking back, don’t know why I was so damn cheap and just didn’t get a cab back and forth, from either the Orleans or the Strip. Anyways… I did get my poker fix when I played the Ultimate Texas Hold’em table game. It was $10 per game, which actually meant $20, since you had to ante and bet; $30 if you wanted to go to show down. Whatever… I actually had to reach in my pocket to get out some cash to up my bet when I was dealt pocket 10s. When a Jack and 4 cards to a straight came out, I thought I was dead… I held on. I was doing pretty good until I lost back to back hands having top pair on the board; that was my cue to leave, about break even at that point. I spent the next hour BSing with this guy in one of those automated wheelchair type things. He had commented on my Bears shirt; he was from Detroit. We were going back and forth on a number of topics; glad the waitress kept bringing me beers even though I wasn’t playing. That’s really one of the best parts about Vegas…

Vegas is a vibe… it’s a collection of people of all ages from all over the country, even the world. It’s sitting side by side these people playing poker; it’s standing side by side with them playing roulette… it’s sitting at the bar playing video poker getting drunk smoking cigars talking shit with the other people at the bar. It’s this vibe that has been missing this past year. There has been limited interaction between people due to the pandemic. Outside of your circle, family, friends, and in my case, co-workers, there really has been nobody else. Vegas IS everybody else. I missed it. I missed Vegas. This is why I love Vegas.

So yeah, I lost about $125 at the end of the day; that’s nothing. I did win my only sports bet when the Nationals came back to beat the Phillies on a Starlin Castro 2 RBI hit in the 9th inning; thank you ex-Cub. I did place $10 on the Bears to win the Super Bowl. At 60-1, if the Bears do win, that’s a nice bankroll for my next Vegas trip… although realistically, most of that will come in one pocket and out the other before I even make it back… but I will make it back.

Until next time… whether that’s another family trip to see my father in law, whether it’s just us 3, whether it’s only my wife and I, whether it’s with the guys one day… one day… I will be back. See you next time…
