June 3, 2020: Roster Complete

Ok back for thirds… I’ve been known to do that from time to time. So much for portion control… We’ve already got one hell of a team; it’s time to fill in the rest of the roster with some all-time NBA greats. It’s also a time to fill in some needs our team may have.

If you look at our team thus far, who is the best shooter we have? Larry Bird. After that, any other great three point specialists? No. Would this roster of all time greats have been better at three point shooting had that been the name of the game when they played? Yes, heck yes. So although I’m not so concerned about it, I do feel the need to address it. How about one of the best three point shooters of all time? Welcome to the team Stephen Curry. Imagine him being your three point specialist that you bring in? That’s the quality of depth that I’m talking about. Do we need another three point specialist? We’ll get back to that.

Another guy that I have to have on my all-time NBA team is Dennis Rodman. Biased? Maybe, but this type of player… pure hustle, non-stop energy, one of the best rebounders in NBA history, can effectively guard multiple positions, multiple time champion. Yes, you can never have enough of these type of players on your team. And he’ll make a three pointer now and then… haha. Easy call for me here.

What about another big man? I think, do we need one? With Garnett and Duncan, I have two additional players who can play center if need be after Hakeem and Kareem. Heck, the guy I just mentioned Rodman could play the center position if need be. With Wilt, Russell, and Shaq still available, this makes for a hard decision. Besides not including LeBron on this roster, leaving any one of those three guys off would be tough; picking one of those three may be tougher. I think I’m going to go small to finish out the roster.

I feel like John Stockton is a must. One of the best point guards of all time has a spot. Charles Barkley is also on this roster, as is, Dirk Nowitzki. There, I’m done. Let’s take one last look now that our roster is complete.

Starters: Oscar Robertson, Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Kevin Garnett, Hakeem Olajuwon.

Bench: Magic Johnson, John Stockton, Kobe Bryant, Stephen Curry, Scottie Pippen, Charles Barkley, Dennis Rodman, Dirk Nowitzki, Tim Duncan, Kareem Abdul Jabbar.

Is this team going undefeated? Maybe, maybe not. Any team on any given night could pull one out. There are many great players that are NOT listed above. It’s possible to see a loss pop up on the record. However, if you’re going to tell me that you have a team of players not listed above that will beat the above team in a 7 game series, I’m going to have to go ahead and disagree with you. In fact, like the best player on this team, on the biggest stage, there would never even be a 7th game.

Imagine the combinations of lineups you could put on the floor. Imagine the practices between these guys. Imagine all of these guys on the same team in their prime.

This was fun. I’m still not completely caught up, but I’m close enough. There’s some other business to attend to. I’m very happy with my all time NBA roster, and that’s all that really matters. Any team, any time… bring it on.
