March 11, 2020: Cheap Tickets

posted in: Blackhawks | 0

It’s been a while since there were cheap tickets for the Blackhawks. I remember going to a game around 2002 for dirt cheap. We were sitting in the Lexus/Club level. It was more than half empty. You could hear the players talking on the ice. It’s not 2002 any more…

As we all know, the Blackhawks are one of the hottest tickets in town nowadays. I will continue to write about the 10th anniversary of the 1st Stanley Cup in my lifetime in the upcoming days; tickets haven’t been the same since then… until Wednesday night against the Sharks.

I was home early from work; I had been monitoring tickets all day long. I was off the rest of the week; my son only had a half day Thursday. This could work. Of course, the reason for the cheap tickets had nothing to do with the Blackhawks play; as concern over the Coronavirus grew, people were dumping their tickets. I saw $30 Lexus level tickets!!! Normally, I couldn’t get those for $130 each. I wanted to pull the trigger, but decided in the long run, no need to force it; my wife also weighed in on the decision. There’ll be another chance later this year, or will there be?

It was pretty packed anyways; it also ended up being a pretty good game. The Blackhawks won the game 6-2. As the game continued, the big news broke: the NBA had suspended the regular season. Wow… crazy. You just knew the NHL would be next. At 32-30-8, the Blackhawks season was pretty much over as it was, but now, who knows when they’ll be back on the ice.

Thankfully we can get back to the 10th year anniversary celebration; that was better than talking about the 2019-2020 regular season anyways. We’ll have to hang on to our memories at this point, more than we normally do. And as you know, that is no problem for me. Although we were aware of what was going on both here and across the world, I don’t think any of us could have guessed what came next. Little did we know, that this Wednesday night, March 11, 2020, would be the last night for sports. This Blackhawks game would be our last chance to watch a Chicago team play live, maybe for the rest of the month… hopefully not longer than that. Regardless of how our teams in season were playing, that still sucks…
