March 22, 2020: NHL Reset

OK, if you read the previous post about how I would handle the return of the NBA if (when) it happens; here’s my version for the NHL. It’s very similar…

The NHL is even further along in their season than the NBA; this makes things a bit easier in regards to skipping the rest of the regular season and start the playoffs when the NHL returns. For purposes of this exercise, we’re going to use June 1st as the return date. The problem with doing this in the NHL, is that there are more teams on the fringe than the NBA. The playoffs in the East in the NBA are already set; in the NHL, you have 3 teams at the bottom of the playoff teams right now tied at 81… you have 3 other teams within 3 points. You legitimately have 6 teams fighting for those 3 spots. Solution: have those 6 teams play each other; the 3 winners advance to the postseason. Done. In the NBA, I suggested a similar type play in experience for the last spot in the Western Conference. In the NHL, there’s really only 3 teams fighting for those last 2 spots. Yeah, forget about the Coyotes, and yes, forget about the Hawks; they ain’t making it. Let the Canucks, Predators, and Wild fight it out for the final 2 spots; then the playoffs will be set.

Precisely, an increased level of stress and anxiety due to such situations puts a person at a higher risk of death but still people continue smoking. cheap viagra professional downtownsault.org You may have purchased defective or weak discount viagra pills batteries. It’s the same concept with the off-season and start of next season, although the NHL doesn’t have as many off days as the NBA, or at least it feels that way. Heck, they should have more off days… or maybe they shouldn’t. Yes, the action in the NHL is more non-stop; it’s more physical. But you’re talking about 20 minutes per game maximum for your top minute getters. In the NBA, you’re looking at close to 40… or was that only with the Thibs’ Bulls? And yes, the NBA already utilizes “load management”, while the NHL rarely does healthy scratches for their superstar players, or is that just the Blackhawks? Yeah, it will be a tough transition for the 2020-2021 season with the shortened offseason, but oh well… again, suck it up; I’m sure they could handle it. Maybe for the NHL you can throw in a 2 week “vacation” similar to the Olympic break to space things out for folks?

At this point, I just want to see any live sports. Where normally I wouldn’t watch many hockey games outside of the Blackhawks, I would now. Heck, I may watch the entire playoffs at this rate. Yes, those throwback Blackhawks games have been great… Game 5 against Nashville… I have my son doing the Hossa celebration from that game now. The Game 6 1st period shootout in the series clincher; awesome. The best part about these games is watching them with my son, who is seeing this stuff for the first time. Well, that may not exactly be true, since I’ve given him plenty of history lessons; he says he does remember the end of Game 5 vs the Predators… haha. Anyways… hoping the NHL is back sooner than later. I miss sports!
