March 23, 2021: You Guys Brothers?

Talking about the Bulls on the brink of making the playoffs this year… how about the Blackhawks? Yes, currently their UC brothers are sitting in a similar position, holding on to that last position after a brutal road trip. You guys brothers? No… Yes! Actually, it’s more like yes…. No! The Blackhawks are not in the same position as the Bulls, and here’s why.

First off, it’s the nature of the sport. An 8 seed in the NBA does not equal an 8 seed in the NHL, agreed? I know neither of them have the best shot at winning it all, but if I had to pick one that is more likely, it’s the 8 seed in the NHL. If you have a hot goaltender, you could do some damage, kind of like Lankinen on Tuesday night vs the Panthers at the UC. He single handedly, well, there was a few great defensive plays too, held the lead through that crazy 3rd period getting that much needed W for the Hawks. If Lankinen, or heck Subban, were to get hot, the Hawks could potentially advance. Plus, in hockey, there are more bounces that could go your way… a post here, a post there… we’ve seen that hurt the more talented Hawks in the past; it could hurt a more talented team against us now. A deflection at the right time could be huge too. In the NBA, not much “luck” going on. Sure, a team could heat up from 3 point land; a guy could carry a team… for a game… like Lavine could for the Bulls. But in a 7 game series, an 8 seed beating a 1 seed is highly unlikely, unless you’re Mutombo (love that commercial by the way) against the Sonics back in the day… that was 1994. It has happened other times, 4 other times to be exact. We were on the receiving end of one of those when D Rose went down with an injury in Game 1 vs the 76ers; it would never have happened otherwise, but there is always the injury bug that could help. From my quick research, this has happened 19 times in the NHL, and again, we’ve been on the receiving end. 2017 vs the Preds, 1993 vs the Blues, 1991 vs the North Stars… maybe it’s our turn?

Would this 58 pounds million not be better spent on detecting heart disease itself? Doctors are only supposed to prescribe sans prescription viagra to patients with certain conditions but it is a pricey business.

Another big difference is the experience factor. Sure, the Hawks are a very young team like the Bulls, but we still have championship pedigree skating around aka Patrick Kane and Duncan Keith. Also, some of the young Hawks got a taste of it last year when we played (and won a round) in the playoff bubble; that shit matters. That’s why I keep saying how important it is for the Bulls to make it this year, and get some of that 2nd season under their belt.

So, yeah, I wouldn’t have thought it at the beginning of the year, but I do now. Although I think both teams can make the playoffs, I think the Hawks have the better chance at advancing. Although they are brothers in the building, and they are both hanging around the bottom of the playoff qualifiers, they are not identical. I wish well for both of them obviously. Getting both of our teams in the postseason is always welcome, regardless of our chances in either case. Let’s make it happen!
