March 24, 2024: A Week Later

It’s been about a week since the Bears made their decision at QB. Now that we’ve let it sink in, how you doing?

I wore my Justin Fields Bears shirt the other day. Somebody told me… don’t need to wear that shirt any more. Well, I don’t agree; hey, I still have my Khalil Mack t-shirt! I have nothing against Justin Fields; I didn’t really have anything against Mitch Trubisky either. I did have a problem that the Bears traded up a spot to draft him, yeah. After the one magical year, it was pretty apparent that Mitch wasn’t that guy; I knew he would be a career backup. So far so good with that plan Mitch. With Justin, I was thrilled when the Bears traded up to grab him. He didn’t really have a magical year per se; he had plenty of magical moments. I certainly did not put Justin in that same category as Mitch, however, at least for this next year, at least the START of this next year, he will be a backup, so… Still, I’m not convinced that Justin could not be a serviceable starting QB; I hope he gets another chance. I hope he does well, not too good, but well… haha. Serviceable is important, but with the #1 overall pick for the 2nd straight year, the Bears couldn’t settle for serviceable; they couldn’t keep waiting for serviceable to turn into superstardom. It may never happen.

It’s time to turn the page. We should start getting used to Caleb Williams as the Bears QB; that’s not so bad, is it? I wasn’t goo goo, ga ga over him; I saw how he didn’t play so great against better college defenses. This is why I was fine taking either path at QB, but… that being said, it’s hard not to get excited about the prospect of a new QB at the helm for the Bears. The bar is so low for us… He doesn’t have to be a sure fire HOF QB to be successful here; turn in a few all-pro years, lead us to a Super Bowl, you’re good. I was watching some of the highlights from his pro day… again, hard not to get excited. Sure, they’re trying to make him look good, but… he did. His release… effortless. This is one of the biggest differences I see between him and Justin. Justin has a big arm, but it takes him a while to load up. Caleb just sort of flicks it down the field 60 yards. But what do I know about evaluating QBs? Look at what we’ve seen at this position over the years. I can only look at other team’s superstar QBs, and be patient… waiting for our day, the one day, the Bears will have THAT guy at QB. Will Caleb be THAT guy?

Well, I’m ready to find out; I’m excited to find out. I’m not going to run and buy my son a Caleb Williams jersey; I already did that with Trubisky and Fields. He’s fine with his DJ Moore jersey… haha. But yeah, he will be the QB of my team, so I’ll be rooting like hell for him, just like I have for every other guy in that position over the years. Will we finally hit jackpot? Will we finally recoup all the dues we’ve paid over the years waiting for the franchise QB? When it comes to my teams, my pockets of passion run deep; I always have more to give. But it sure would be nice to get rewarded. It’s only been 38 years… Bear Down!!!
