March 25, 2020: Not So Brotherly

For Game 3, the series would shift to Philadelphia… the City of Brotherly Love they say. I’ve never been there, so I cannot comment personally. We were supposed to head out that way last year to see the Cubs Phillies, but that didn’t happen. From what I hear though, their fans ain’t the greatest. I dealt with them a little bit when I went to the Bears Eagles playoff game back in the day. They weren’t so bad… I don’t mind talking crap back and forth, as long as it stays somewhat civil. Philly has never been a good place for the Blackhawks. Do you know the last time the Blackhawks have won a regular season game in Philly? 1996.. yeah! That’s just nuts. Thankfully, with home ice, the Blackhawks wouldn’t have to win there to win the Cup. Would they get one? Not in Game 3.

It was a good game… OT in fact. Another back and forth game… 1-0 Philly, 1-1, 2-1 Philly, 2-2, 3-2 Chicago, 3-3, and finally 4-3 in OT. This was fun stuff to watch; the result wasn’t fun, but had it been the Blackhawks who had won in extra time, this game would be remembered more fondly. To brush up on this game, I watched some highlights. My son was watching these with me, and was pissed when the Blackhawks lost; funny. I did tell him regarding the throwback games that have been airing… if they’re showing it, then we won; they wouldn’t be replaying losses. Makes sense. It was only 8 minutes, and I know what the ultimate end result will be, so it wasn’t that bad.

One thing that I noticed & remembered from that series is how good Eddie O is. We get to listen to him many times throughout the season. When it’s him and Foley, on the local broadcast, he can be more biased. But on the national stage… man, this guy is really good at staying unbiased. I’m sure inside he was going nuts each time the Blackhawks would score; I’m sure he was pissed each time they lost, like after this one. You would never be able to tell it from his words in the booth.

One good sign coming from this game was the fact that Kane finally scored again. After scoring 7 goals in the first two rounds, he was kept out of the net against the Sharks, and the first two games against the Flyers. Nice to see him score; maybe he’ll have a couple more big goals for us in this series? The other goals came from the defensemen, Keith and Sopel. The Flyers scored two of their goals on the power play. The Hawks penalty kill had been so good, but the Flyers were no slouches with the man advantage.

Yes, the Flyers held serve in their first home game; this wasn’t San Jose we were talking about. Game 4 at home would present a chance for the Flyers to tie this series up. Buckle up.
