March 25, 2024: Opening Week

The time has come… baseball is returning. Actually, baseball has already returned. Yeah, in case you didn’t know, the Dodgers and Padres played 2 games overseas this past week. Great job by the MLB promoting that by the way. I wonder how many people actually watched those games… Anyways, the team I’m interested in starts this Thursday night in Texas. Yep, welcome back Cubbies!

Before we leave Dodgers Padres, how about the Ohtani gambling stuff?!?! There was a bunch of great stuff on Twitter as that whole story broke. Did he know? Was this really all on his interpreter? Kind of hard to believe. Sure, the $4.5 million bucks isn’t a big deal; that’s like $1,000 for us. But did Ohtani gamble? Did he bet on baseball? Is he a degenerate just like us? Haha… I’m sure the MLB will make sure this story goes away as quietly and quickly as possible. The face of the MLB… the mega star… not only in this country, but globally… I’m sure this will NOT go the route of Pete Rose, or anywhere near there. Suspension? Doubt it. I would root for that to happen only because I’ll be rooting against the Dodgers all year, except of course when they play the Cardinals. Anyways…

Justin Steele will be taking the mound on Thursday night in Texas. I really think he’ll have another good year. I’ve picked him up in both of my fantasy leagues. Not sure if folks think he’s really not that good, but I do. For all the concerns about the Cubs, about the starting pitching staff, there is one person I’m not concerned about, and that’s Justin. The Cubs have a legitimate ace IMO. Excited to see him get on the rubber again, against one of the best lineups in baseball. Excited to get the season started period.

I still wish the Cubs would have done more in the offseason; I expected them to. That’s what I get for high expectations… What’s done is done though, and now, we move forward with the guys we got. There’s certainly the trade deadline, and of course, the Cubs richer than average minor league system where this roster can be improved; I look forward to that. I look forward to competing for a division, and getting back into the postseason. Most of all, I just look forward to watching the Cubs play baseball again; I love baseball. I love my Cubs.

The start of baseball also signals springtime in Chicago; did we really even have a winter? Sure, there may be flurries this week, but for all intensive purposes, winter is gone, winter never arrived; too late for it now. Spring is coming, and after that, summer. We’ll be back on the field practicing and playing games ourselves soon. Definitely make it to Wrigley a few times; hopefully be able to see them on the road somewhere this year. It’s a great time of year. Welcome back baseball. Go Cubs!!!
