March 26, 2024: Futures Market

As if there isn’t enough to bet on… all the games, every day; it’s too much. You need to focus. So yeah, the day to day, week to week is a beast, then you can bet on the futures market! Yeah, let me place some bets that won’t be decided for 6 months…… Yeah, let me place some bets that won’t be decided for 6 months!

I’ve placed futures before. I actually bet on the Cubs to win the World Series in 2016; that was a fun fact about that historical title. I’ve bet on the Bears win totals before; don’t think I’ve ever hit on that… maybe this year? On our annual trip to Vegas, I go to the sportsbook and grab all the future bets; my son and I review them by the pool… haha. I never jumped on any of those plays, but now… with all these future bets at my fingertips… listening to my show, Follow The Money… dropping their opinions on future bets… yeah, I think it’s time to dabble.

One of the reasons I’ve avoided it, is because I’m tying up X% of my bankroll, and with a limited bankroll, that wasn’t attractive. Now that I’ve given myself a little breathing room, why not? Why not invest in something now that could pay big dividends in the future? I don’t think this is an unfamiliar concept. The first future bet I made was on a MLB player’s home run total for this year. Maybe a bit of my heart was involved here, but Kris Bryant! Yes, the Rookie of the Year, MVP, World Series Champ that hasn’t been himself, mostly due to injuries. But, if he stays healthy, and I know, it’s a big IF, considering his home ballpark, you’re telling me he won’t hit more than 19.5 home runs this year? I think he will; lock and load.

This next play is near and dear to my heart: Coby White most improved player of the year. Why not? You know who the favorite is? Tyrese Maxey… how? I know he’s an All Star. I know he’s had a great season, but… he wasn’t that horrible last year. Coby was just a guy coming off the bench, and has turned into a borderline all-star. HE should be the favorite. Now that the 76ers have dropped in the standings, and are much closer to the Bulls, I think my chances are improving. Need Coby to have a couple more big games; throw in a big game in the play in game, and money?!?!

I had to throw some money on UCONN to win it all. I don’t like picking favorites, but… UCONN is that good, and, and… it may give me an opportunity to hedge in the Final Four and ride some dogs. I also took Victor Wembanyama for defensive player of the year. Gobert is the hands-on favorite, but really? Victor has been just as good or better. I know he’ll get the steam for rookie of the year, but he needs a look here too. Hope the voters figure that out. I took another MLB HR player prop, this time on the other side of town. Yes, Luis Robert over 29.5 home runs. Not a Sox fan, and yes, they’ll most likely be bad, but… pressure is off now, which should allow Luis to swing freely; hammering 30 rockets shouldn’t be a problem, as long as HE stays healthy. Finally, Draft Kings offered a cool boost on a future: most wins in the MLB by the end of April. I took a shot at the Orioles, but… even if they don’t get there, I’ll get $1 for every win they DO have to use in a Bonus Bet. I couldn’t pass it up. Oh yeah, and then there’s the Kings to win their division in the NBA…

OK, so there’s my glimpse into the future; don’t want to make too many future bets… a lot can happen between now and then, but hey, with some plus odds, don’t mind adding that into my portfolio. Will continue to browse for future investments, but for now, back to the day to day. Let’s go!
