After the first Bulls title, we partied pretty hard… well, as hard as an almost 15 year old could party. The partying consisted of heading downtown for the Bulls rally in Grant Park. It was a mass of humanity; everybody was in a good mood. The best part about a Chicago team winning it all is that the city feels like it’s one, sharing happiness with each other, even if it’s only for a minute. The Blackhawks winning it all brought similar feelings.
The boys partied pretty hard the next couple days… maybe weeks. After coming back from Philly, it was a non-stop party, hitting bar after bar in Chicago. My wife and I weren’t following along that closely, yet when we saw the Blackhawks party bus pass by the restaurant we were dining at outside downtown, we got on board. No, we didn’t actually board the bus, I mean, we wanted to be a part of this celebration. We got our check and punched up the good old internet to find out where the boys were heading next; it would be a rooftop bar at a hotel downtown. We headed there; we saw the bus parked. We waited, and waited. After a while, it was like… this is silly. They weren’t going to let us up, and who knows how long they could be up there. Just before we decided to call it a night, out came a few guys holding a big black case. We went up to them; there was a few of us out there. And there it was…. as he cracked open this big black luggage looking thing, the Stanley Cup was looking right at us. Wow! Surely, the Blackhawks would be coming down soon after… but after seeing the Cup right in front of our eyes, live and in the flesh, we were good. That was our piece of the party… but there was more.

It was a season I will never forget; this is easily my favorite Blackhawks Cup team…. although 2013 was no slouch. The tape to tape passes, the puck possession, the speed, the two way players back checking, the rough stuff, the phenomenal saves, the superstar play, the PK, the mojo, Q’s stache, the defensive player of the year, the MVP of the playoffs, the arrival of Big Hoss and Big Buff, the big games, the clutch plays, the biggest goal in Blackhawks history… memories that will last a lifetime. I look forward to finishing this 10 year celebration of the first Stanley Cup winning Blackhawks team of my lifetime by watching the rest of the games; all those memories will come rushing back.
