May 14, 2021: BAQ

Ok, I’m back to talk more Bears. I was thinking… yeah, I know, scary… that, now hear me out, come Week 1 against the Rams in LA the Bears should be putting the BAQ on the field for that first snap. The best available quarterback should be put in that spot to help us win immediately. Who the BAQ today is, may not be the same come that day, or, maybe he’s already there. Welcome to Chicago Justin Fields.

There’s talk on both sides of it; don’t start him right away… protect him… give him time to learn. Then there’s the side that is penciling him in RIGHT NOW to start that game, and to start for the next decade. Look, I’m not going to apologize for being hyped up right now; nobody should. Sure, there have been other times, plenty of other times, where I have been hyped up about a player coming to one of my teams; no need to go over all of them that have left me disappointed. It’s not about them right now. It’s about somebody who we hope will break that mold; did we finally get a QB?

Well, the Bears had 2 backup QBs on their roster prior to the draft; our other backup now has a gig in Buffalo. Going into the year with Nick and Andy… sounds like a fricking comedy sitcom… as our QBs… as if we couldn’t feel worse about ourselves. Enter Justin Fields; many believe the Bears got an absolute steal here. Many of the “experts” have been wrong plenty of times too. If he was that good, why didn’t somebody take him before us? I’m not thinking about that right now. I like the feeling that we got a steal, that we actually traded up and picked the right player this time. I like the idea of this kid being a bit pissed about not being taken higher; I like the vibe I get from this kid too… he is a kid you know? Just turned 22 years old; he’s only been legally allowed to drink for 14 months. This is who we are hitching our hopes too? Yes; yes it is.

Nobody truly knows how this will turn out, but I do know something: whoever the best QB on the Bears roster come Week 1 is, that guy should be starting. Look, this will be an early indicator: if Justin Fields cannot beat out Andy Dalton in training camp, I don’t care how old he is, that is an issue, no? Unless of course he does, and the Bears don’t play him, which I think would be a huge mistake. If this guy is THAT guy… Fields has to be better than him, and notice how I’m not even mentioning Foles, OK I just did. If Justin can’t surpass Andy in the coach’s heads between now and then, that would be a huge disappointment. I’m not thinking about that.

No, the fact of the matter is that Justin Fields will be the BAQ on our roster, if he isn’t already. There is not a doubt in my head who should be starting Week 1. Did you see the thing about his wonderlic score? I think that’s what they still call it. He scored the highest ever… 130. A good score is 100; Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen scored a 108. So this Justin Fields is a smart guy too huh? Or maybe he’s just a good test taker… Nope; not buying that. From all early indications, Fields has it all… everything but the Week 1 starter label; how long will that take? Man, am I ready for some Bears football; Bear Down!!!
