May 15, 2014: Falling in Place

posted in: Blackhawks, Bulls | 7

What else can go right for the Hawks right now?  First, the Penguins get elminated (I wasn’t really worried about them), but guess I’d much rather face the Rangers in the Finals WHEN we get there.  Then, Seabrook’s dump-in bounced off the boards to the side of the net for Kane to swoop in and add to his legend, as the Hawks moved on past the pesky Wild.  Next, the Canadiens beat the Bruins, so a rematch with the Bruins, who I thought were the 2nd best team left in the playoffs, is out of the question.  Finally, the Kings beat the Ducks to force a Game 7 in that series, so we get to sit at home and watch them play one more time before we start our next series.  My pick is the Kings in Game 7 because that would mean home ice for the Hawks, which would just make sense considering everything that is falling in place for us.

To have the skill and the experience that the Hawks have, PLUS have the puck bounce your way in more ways than one, make the Hawks seem destined to reach the Finals and win their 2nd Cup in as many years.  (FYI, the great teams have something to do with that puck bouncing the right way).  Either way, an Original Six team will come out of the East, which is a lot more likely every year, considering 5 of the 6 teams now reside in the East.  So, every year, it’s up to the Blackhawks to advance to the Finals from the West, to make the Stanley Cup a battle between one of the original franchises.  The Blackhawks will be happy to oblige, as they should be in the discussion for the rest of the decade.  The NHL & NBC has really got to love the Hawks: they have the stars to market, they have the big city to support them, and they are the only Original 6 franchise in the West.  You’re welcome Bettman.

Speaking about falling in place, that is the exact opposite of what has happened to the Bulls the past few years.  With their best player, Derrick Rose, being sidelined for the past few seasons, the Bulls have missed some golden opportunities.  You throw in additional injuries, the trading of your 2nd best player, and the constant forced reloading of the bench due to cap reasons, this Bulls team has had the deck stacked against them.  With that said, I’m ready to put that behind us, and am looking forward to next season for the Blackhawks’ roomates in the United Center.  To have a healthy Rose back (big IF), to have Boozer gone (almost certainty), to have a high draft pick coming in, to have a new free agent coming in (maybe), and to have the rest of the core guys come back hungrier than ever, all adds up to  an exciting year in 2014-2015.  As I root for any team playing against the Heat, and place all my hope in Indiana & San Antonio to beat the Heat this year, I am confident that the Bulls chance to take a run at an NBA title still exists.  It’s about time to hang another Bulls banner in that building; it’s been too long, and the Hawks are catching up…

I love watching both of these teams play in the United Center.  The crowd and the in-game experience for both teams is different, but both great.  The Chicago Stadium was awesome of course, but this place is starting to build its own history.  Starting with the 2nd half of the Bulls run in the 90s and continuing with the Hawks run this decade, the United Center has seen 5 new banners hung since its inception.  I’m looking to add some more the rest of this decade;  I want at least 3-4 more.  Hey Bulls, that’s a lot to ask just from the Hawks.  Although they may still be able to do that, I need the Bulls to kick in a banner or two as well.  It’s too late to do that this year for the Bulls, so it’s up to you Blackhawks.  The way everything is developing, I look forward to seeing another banner hanging in the rafters THIS year.  One goal.

funny you mention the Heat! not only do they have probably the biggest payroll, the most ‘A’ list players, and the current ‘Best’ player in the game. HOWEVER, they also have the biggest babies and criers in the game. labron is without the biggest baby out there. everytime he pushes people out of the way with his 6’10”, 270lb bulk, he turns to the refs and cries that it should be an ‘and 1′. probably 8 times out of 10, he should have been called for an offensive foul for clearing the path to the bucket with brute force. he will never be held up as the best player. that would take into account actions both on and off the court, eg: Doctor J, and MJ. then add bosh, OMG! last nite towards the end of the game, did you see him tapping his arm and yelling at the ref “he touched me” when he lost the ball out of bounds (frickin’ baby). my only hope is that someone puts everyone outside of Florida out of their misery and puts this team down!!!!!!!

and another thing……there is still baseball being played in Chicago. just because you’re biased, doesn’t excuse a “die-hard Chicago sports fan” from reporting what happened yesterday!!!

Baseball was PPD yesterday…. Oh yeah, the Sox did play. Congrats to the White Sox on the win and to Abreu for hitting another dinger. As long as the ankles hold up, Abreu may help the Sox score enough runs to make up for the worst pitching in the major leagues… There you go! haha…
